Why You’ll Want to Sew these Pyramid Weights

May 21, 2026 By A Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment

Why You’ll Want to Sew These Pyramid Weights

Some projects are tiny, quick, and surprisingly useful — and these little Pyramid Weights are exactly that. I’ve been sewing a fresh batch this week using the beautiful Something Blue collection by Tilda (releasing 1 June 2026), and they’ve quickly become one of my favourite scrap‑friendly makes.

Whether you’re sewing, reading, or organising your drawers, these sweet little pyramids are endlessly handy. Today I’m sharing three lovely ways to use them, plus a link to the free pattern so you can sew your own.

Get your free Pyramid Weights Pattern here.

1. Pattern Weights for Your Sewing Table

If you love cutting with a rotary cutter or prefer not to pin through your fabric, pattern weights are a game‑changer. These little pyramids sit neatly on your pattern pieces and hold everything in place while you cut.

They’re the perfect size for small templates, curved edges, and fussy‑cutting. I like to keep a little bowl of them on my cutting table so they’re always within reach.

2. Book Weights for Reading + Journaling

One of my favourite uses! Place a Pyramid Weight on the edge of your book or journal to keep the pages open while you read, write, or follow a recipe. They’re heavy enough to hold the page but soft enough not to damage the paper.

They also look so pretty sitting on your bedside table or desk.

3. Scented Sachets for Drawers + Wardrobes

Fill your Pyramid Weight with dried lavender and you instantly have a sweet little sachet for your drawers, linen cupboard, or wardrobe. They make lovely gifts and are a beautiful way to use your favourite fabric scraps.

I’ve tucked a few into my sewing room drawers and they smell wonderful every time I open them.

A Quick + Satisfying Make

Pyramid Weights are a fast project — perfect for beginners, scrap‑busting, or a relaxing weekend sew. You only need a small amount of fabric, a tassel, and your choice of filling.

They’re also a great way to showcase pretty prints. I’ve used Something Blue by Tilda for these samples, with thanks to @tilda_australia.

Tassels + Filling: The Finishing Touches

One of the sweetest details on these Pyramid Weights is the little tassel at the top. It adds a soft, decorative finish and makes the pyramids feel extra special — whether you’re using them as pattern weights, book weights, or scented sachets.

Tassels

You can use ready‑made tassels or make your own from embroidery floss, yarn, or cotton thread. I love choosing tassels that complement the fabric — soft whites, pastels, or a contrasting pop of colour all work beautifully.

To attach the tassel, simply tuck the loop into the top seam before stitching. When you turn the pyramid right‑side out, the tassel sits neatly at the peak.

Filling Options

Your choice of filling depends on how you plan to use your Pyramid Weight:

  • Pattern Weight: Use rice, poly pellets, or crushed walnut shells for a nice, even weight.
  • Book Weight: A slightly heavier fill works best — rice + a teaspoon of fine gravel or poly pellets give it enough stability to hold pages open.
  • Scented Sachet: Fill with dried lavender, rose petals, or your favourite potpourri blend. You can also add a teaspoon of rice to give it a little weight.

A small funnel makes filling easy, and you only need a few tablespoons for each pyramid.
