FAQ

Here are some of the questions we are often asked. If there is something else you would like to know, please drop us a message via out contact form and we will do our best to answer it.

What type of sewing machine do you use?

We use a Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.2.  The features that we like best include:

  • IDF Integrated Dual Feed so we don’t need to use a separate walking foot
  • large throat space for quilting
  • automatic needle threader
  • programmable tie off
  • needle up/down function
  • variable speed
  • dual LED lights

We also use an Elna 654 Overlocker (serger), predominantly when dress making.

What type of camera do you have?

I have a Canon 450D (Rebel XSi) with twin lens kit. I also purchased a EF 50mm macro lens which is great for close-ups of food and craft items. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro to edit photos.

Can I use images from your blog?

You are very welcome to use one image from a blog post provided you link back to us. You may not use more than one photo in your post, and please do not publish an entire tutorial.

Can I sell things I make from your free tutorials?

Are free tutorials are for your personal use only. You may make them to give as gifts, but please do not sell them.

Why did you call your blog A Spoonful of Sugar?

When we started our blog that was the first name that came to us! As we dabble in a range of crafts and love to bake, we thought this suited our blog content. We have always loved the songs from Mary Poppins – such happy music.

Do you do product reviews?

If you have a product that you would like us to review, simply drop us a line. If we feel that the item fits in with our blog content and believe that it is something our readers would be interested in, we would be most happy to review it.You can find more details under our advertising tab.

Although I hate to admit it, my vision is not as g Although I hate to admit it, my vision is not as good as it used to be. I struggle to thread needles at night. When @sohmo invited me to road test their new collection of needles, I was intrigued to try the Easy Thread Needles.

The needles have a clever indention on top of the eye - you push down with the thread and voila! A quickly threaded needle without the need for needle threaders etc. I am working on a new project with lots of buttons and the needle worked perfectly.

SOHMO Easy-thread needles include three sizes in the pack - 5 gauge, 6 gauge and 7 gauge and are suitable for quick mending tasks, sewing on buttons, and embroidery.

These needles are pretty and practical! The best part is they come in super cute little tins with a sliding lid (I have a weakness for attractive packaging!) There are 5 different needle types available to suit a variety of needs. Needles are made in Japan and are strong and sharp.

Have you discovered a new sewing product recently? Please share below in the comments - I love learning about new sewing tools/gadgets to make life easier.
