Step Into Cosiness with Tilda Village Life

October 3, 2026 By A Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment

6 Projects to sew with Tilda Village Life Fabric collection. Patterns by A Spoonful of Sugar Designs. www.aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com

If you love fabrics that feel nostalgic, homely, and full of storybook charm, you’re going to adore Village Life, the newest collection from Norwegian designer Tone Finnanger, releasing worldwide on October 1st 2026. This range is all about stepping into a world of vintage wallpaper, pretty dresses, and quaint village scenes — the kind of prints that instantly make your sewing table feel warm and inviting.

Village Life is built around rich, cosy colours: deep burgundy, crisp blue, warm rust, and golden ochre. These tones give the collection a bold yet timeless feel, perfect for autumn sewing, scrappy projects, or anything that needs a touch of cottagecore charm. The coordinates are sweet and versatile, and the feature print — a delightful illustrated village scene — ties the whole palette together with a whimsical flourish.

The collection comes in two beautiful colour stories:

  • one featuring rust and ochre paired with teal greens,
  • and another built around rich burgundy and blues.

Choose one for a distinctive, cohesive look… or mix both for a scrappy, vintage aesthetic that feels like rummaging through a treasured sewing basket. Either way, Village Life is a joy to sew with. Ask for it at your local quilt store — it’s arriving October 1st!

✂️ Six Projects to Showcase Village Life

To celebrate this beautiful new range, I’ve designed five sewing projects that highlight the colours, motifs, and cosy charm of Village Life. Each project uses the fabrics in a different way — from foundation‑pieced details to clever construction techniques — giving you plenty of inspiration for your own makes.

I’ll share a paragraph about each project below, along with links to the Pattern Store and Etsy Shop so you can sew along:

  • Hexie House Placemats
  • Luma Bucket
  • Tiny Tote
  • Quadra Pouch
  • Bitsy Basket
  • Holly Jolly Tree (free)

Hexie House Placemats

The Hexie House Placemats are the perfect way to showcase the charming illustrated motifs in Village Life. The feature print shines in the little fussy‑cut windows and doors, while the coordinates add depth through tiny florals and vintage wallpaper‑style patterns. These placemats feel wonderfully homely — like something you’d find in a cosy country kitchen — and the rich burgundy, blue, rust, and ochre tones give them a warm autumn feel. They’re quick to sew, delightful to gift, and a lovely way to bring a touch of cottage charm to your table. You can find the pattern in our Pattern Store.

Luma Bucket

The Luma Bucket is a modern, functional storage piece that looks extra special in Village Life. The bold colours and sweet coordinates create a crisp, structured finish, while the feature village print adds a whimsical focal point. Whether you use it for yarn, sewing notions, children’s toys, or seasonal décor, the Luma Bucket brings a cheerful pop of colour to any room. It’s a satisfying make with clever construction, and Village Life’s vintage palette gives it a timeless, handmade feel. Pattern is available in our Pattern Store.

Tiny Tote

The Tiny Tote is a small but mighty project — perfect for showcasing the smaller‑scale prints in Village Life. The burgundy and blue colour story gives the tote a classic, polished look, while the rust and ochre tones create a warm, nostalgic vibe. It’s ideal for gifting, storing little treasures, or using as a sweet grab‑and‑go bag. With its neat proportions and simple construction, the Tiny Tote is a wonderful way to enjoy the charm of Village Life in a quick afternoon sew. Find the pattern in our Pattern Store.

Quadra Pouch

The Quadra Pouch is all about crisp lines and clever fabric placement, making it a fantastic match for Village Life’s mix of coordinates. The four‑panel design lets you play with colour stories — choose a cohesive palette or mix burgundy, blue, rust, and ochre for a scrappy, vintage look. It’s a practical pouch for everyday use, perfect for storing sewing tools, cosmetics, or travel essentials. The structured shape and tidy finish make it a satisfying project that really highlights the beauty of this collection. You can find the pattern in our Pattern Store.

Bitsy Basket

The Bitsy Basket is a sweet, petite organiser that looks adorable in Village Life fabrics. The tiny florals and vintage‑style coordinates give it a soft, nostalgic feel, while the richer tones add warmth and depth. It’s perfect for holding thread spools, jewellery, desk items, or small gifts — and it’s one of those projects you’ll want to make again and again. The Bitsy Basket is quick, fun, and a lovely way to use up smaller pieces of this beautiful new range. Pattern is available in our Pattern Store.

Holly Jolly Tree (Free Pattern)

Don’t forget to download the free Holly Jolly Tree pattern . This one is made with the Village Life collection. Although traditionally a Christmas design, I loved stitching this version in the warm rust, ochre and golden shades from Village Life. The cosy autumn palette makes it perfect for harvest, Halloween and Thanksgiving decorating, while still transitioning beautifully into the Christmas season. Get your free pattern here.

🌿 Why Village Life Is a Must‑Sew Collection

Village Life is one of those ranges that feels instantly familiar — like fabrics you might find in a grandmother’s linen cupboard or tucked inside a vintage sewing tin. The colours are rich without being heavy, the prints are detailed without overwhelming your project, and the coordinates make it easy to mix and match across all five patterns.

Whether you’re sewing for your home, gifting handmade pieces, or refreshing your autumn sewing list, Village Life brings a cosy, nostalgic charm that works beautifully across bags, baskets, placemats, and small projects.

Something Blue is a dreamy, romantic collection filled with delicate florals and soft blues, perfect for wedding‑season sewing, pretty pouches, and timeless home décor. Merry Little Christmas brings cheerful holiday charm with sweet motifs and nostalgic colours — ideal for festive makes, gift‑giving projects, and December sewing traditions. Maybe it's just me, but I think every sewist has a Maybe it's just me, but I think every sewist has a piece of fabric they're a little afraid to cut into.

You know the one.

The fabric that's too pretty, too special, or waiting for the perfect project.

I've certainly been guilty of saving beautiful Liberty fabrics for "someday". But over the years I've realised something:

The joy isn't in owning the fabric.

The joy is in turning it into something you'll use, display, gift, or enjoy every day.

Some of my favourite sewing projects began with a Liberty fabric I was hesitant to cut into. Looking back, I've never regretted using it. The only fabrics I've regretted are the ones that sat folded away for years waiting for the perfect moment.

Beautiful fabric deserves to become something beautiful.
