Fabric Scrap Crafts: No Sewing Required

August 1, 2023 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

Do you have a pile of fabric scraps that you don’t know what to do with? Don’t throw them away! You can turn them into some amazing no-sew crafty projects that are perfect for gifts, home decor, or just for fun. In this blog post, I’m going to share with you some of my favorite no-sew projects. They are all super easy, super cute, and super creative. Let’s get started!

When Sewing and Quilting on a Budget it is important you make good use of your scraps. Quilting cotton is expensive and when you make a quilt top or other sewing project, there is usually various sized pieces left over. It is important to have a good method to organise your fabric scraps in place so you can find the perfect offcut of fabric for your next project. Find out more about my scrap management system here.

Here is a roundup of my favourite no-sew crafty projects to use your scraps. Click on the photo to read more details on each project.

Liberty Yoyo Wreath: If you love yoyos, you’ll love this project. It’s a beautiful wreath made of Liberty fabric yoyos and completed with a felt bow. It is a lovely way to add some charm to a bedroom or office.

Yoyo Pegs: These are adorable little yoyos that you can attach to wooden pegs and use as magnets, clips, or decorations. All you need is some fabric scraps, a circle template (or yoyo maker), a needle and thread, and some glue. You can make them in any size or color you like. They look great on the fridge, on a bulletin board, or on a gift bag.

Covered Matchboxes: These are so simple and so sweet. You can transform plain matchboxes into pretty little boxes that you can use for storage, display, or gifting. All you need is some fabric scraps, some glue, and some scissors. You can cover the whole box or just the top. You can embellish them with ribbons, lace, stickers, or anything else you like. They are perfect for holding small items like pins, buttons, beads, or jewelry.

Favourite Uses for Fabric Tape: This is one of my favorite no-sew projects ever. You can make your own fabric tape using fabric scraps and double-sided tape. It’s so easy and so fun. You can use it to decorate anything from cards, envelopes, notebooks, jars, boxes, or anything else you can think of. You can mix and match different fabrics and patterns to create your own unique tape. It’s a great way to use up those tiny scraps that are too small for anything else.

Child’s Fleece Scarf: This is a cozy and cute project that you can make for your kids or grandkids. It’s a fleece scarf that has a fringe cut into each end, and decorate with felt and buttons.

Fabric Covered Berry Box: This is a lovely project that you can use to store or gift small items like candy, cookies, soap, or candles. It’s a wood berry box that you can cover with fabric scraps using glue and scissors. You can choose any fabric you like, or use different fabrics for each side of the box. You can also add some ribbon or twine to make a handle or a bow. It’s a cute and eco-friendly way to reuse those berry boxes.

Valentines Matchbook Needle Holder: This is a sweet and practical project that you can make for yourself or for someone special. It’s a matchbox that you can turn into a needle holder using fabric scraps, felt, glue, and scissors. You can decorate the outside of the box with fabric hearts and write a message on the inside. You can also add some pins and needles to the felt insert to make it ready for use. It’s a lovely way to show your love for sewing and for someone special.

Gift Tags and Fabric Tape: This is a fun and easy project that you can make to add some personality to your gifts. It’s gift tags that you can make using cardstock, fabric scraps, fabric tape, glue, scissors, and a hole puncher. You can cut out any shapes or letters you like from the cardstock and the fabric scraps and glue them together. You can also use fabric tape to create stripes or borders on the tags. Then you can punch a hole on the top and add some ribbon or twine to attach them to your gifts.

Fabric Covered Box: This is another great project that you can use for storage or gifting. It’s a cardboard box that you can cover with fabric scraps using glue and scissors. You can cover the whole box or just the lid. You can also add some ribbon or lace to make it more elegant. You can use any size or shape of box you have and any fabric scraps you like. It’s a nice way to give new life to old boxes.

Happy Scrappy Cards: Make these cheerful cards using fabric scraps, cardstock, and lace motifs.

Folded Star Ornament: This is a beautiful and festive project that you can make for Christmas or any other holiday. You need fabric scraps, polystyrene ball, ribbon and pins.

Love Notes: These mini cards feature a cut out heart with pretty fabric showing through. It is a fun project to showcase your favourite fabric scraps.

Home Sweet Home: Create a family motto to hang in your kitchen, using vintage fabrics and scrabble tiles. Find a thrifted vintage frame and line it with some retro fabric. Spell out the words of your family motto using Scrabble Tiles, and adhere them to the fabric with a strong glue that bonds fabric and plastic.

I hope you enjoyed these no-sew crafty projects from fabric scraps. They are all fun, easy, and creative ways to use up those leftover fabrics and make something beautiful. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below. Happy crafting!
