Tilda Songbird: Projects to Sew

February 5, 2026 By A Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment

Exploring the New Tilda Songbird Collection

Released worldwide 1 February 2026

There’s something truly special about beginning a new month with a fresh collection from Tilda, and the new Songbird range is one of the most charming releases yet. With its soft pastel palette and gentle watercolour feel, Songbird brings a sense of calm creativity to the sewing room. The hand‑drawn illustrations—delicate blooms, sweet birds, and whimsical garden scenes—offer a subtle nod to the more elaborate motifs of Art Nouveau, all presented in the classic, light, naïve Tilda style we know and love.

I was delighted to receive some of these beautiful fabrics from Tilda Australia, and I couldn’t wait to start stitching. The colours are soft without being washed out, the prints are detailed without feeling busy, and the whole collection works beautifully for small projects where every tiny motif has a chance to shine.

Below are some of the projects I’ve been sewing with Songbird—each one beginner‑friendly, scrap‑friendly, and perfect for thoughtful gifting.

Pocketful of Sunshine Bag

This sweet drawstring bag has quickly become a favourite. The patchwork pocket on the front is ideal for showcasing tiny Songbird prints, and the soft pastels give the whole piece a gentle, watercolour glow. It’s a quick, satisfying make and a lovely way to enjoy the collection’s smaller motifs. You can find the Pocketful of Snshine Bag pattern in our Patterns Store and Etsy Shop.

Mini Treat Pouch

Perfect for gifting chocolates, notions, or tiny treasures, the Mini Treat Pouch looks especially charming in Songbird’s delicate florals. The small scale of the prints makes them ideal for petite projects like this. You can find the Mini Treat Pouch Sewing Pattern in our Pattern Store and Etsy Shop.

Bitsy Basket

The Bitsy Basket is always a joy to sew, and Songbird gives it a fresh, spring‑like feel. I love how the soft greens and blues pair with the tiny birds—just right for storing threads, clips, or little sewing room essentials. You can find the Bitsy Basket Pattern in our Pattern Store and Etsy Shop.

Handy Drawstring Bag

A practical favourite, this drawstring bag is a great way to mix and match prints from the collection. The gentle colour palette means everything coordinates effortlessly, making it a stress‑free project for beginners and experienced sewists alike. You can find the Handy Drawstring Bag (3 Sizes) in our Pattern Store and Etsy Shop.

Love Tag

Songbird’s soft pastels lend themselves beautifully to sweet, heartfelt makes. The Love Tag is a lovely scrap‑friendly project that highlights the collection’s watercolour charm. It’s perfect for gifting, decorating, or adding a personal touch to handmade items. Get your Love Tag free pattern here.

Threaded Tokens

These tiny tokens are a delightful way to use up even the smallest scraps. The hand‑drawn details in Songbird really shine in miniature, making each token feel like a tiny piece of art. You can get your Threaded Tokens free pattern here.

Why Songbird Works So Well for Small Projects

One of the joys of Tilda collections is how thoughtfully the prints are scaled. Songbird is especially well suited to small, quick‑to‑sew projects because:

  • The motifs are detailed but not overwhelming
  • The colour palette is cohesive across all prints
  • The soft pastels create a gentle, watercolour effect
  • Even tiny scraps look beautiful
  • The designs feel timeless and gift‑ready

Whether you’re quilting, crafting, or sewing small accessories, Songbird offers endless possibilities.

Final Thoughts

The Tilda Songbird collection has been such a pleasure to sew with. Its soft, romantic palette and hand‑drawn charm make it perfect for small projects, thoughtful gifts, and gentle, creative moments at the sewing table. I hope these ideas inspire you to explore the collection and enjoy its sweet, calming beauty in your own makes.
