Hot Chocolate Mix

October 18, 2012 By Spoonful of Sugar - 13 Comments

Now that Christmas is getting closer, we are starting to plan our Christmas gifts. We always love to include some homemade gifts for family and friends, so will be sharing some gift ideas here over the coming weeks. One item that we love to give and is always well received is Hot Chocolate Mix. This is super easy to prepare, and is simple enough for the kids to be involved in the preparation and assembly. (They will enjoy measuring out the chocolate chips and marshmallows). We always test our marshmallows and chocolate for freshness first – we take quality control very seriously here at A Spoonful of Sugar 🙂

The Mix will make enough for 4-6 gift mugs, depending upon the size of the mugs. There are so many cute mugs around, or you can personalise your own like we did here and here.

Ingredients:
2 cups of skim milk powder
¾ cup caster sugar
½ cup cocoa
½ cup milk chocolate chips (or a combination of mini, milk, white, or  dark)
1/8 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
Marshmallows (optional)
Supplies:
Mugs (4-6)
Cellophane bags
Sheets of cellophane
Plain gift tags
Ribbon
Method:
Mix all the ingredients together into a bowl.
If you are giving the Hot Chocolate Mix as a gift, place some of the mix into a cellophane bag, and tie with a ribbon.  Place the bagged mix into a mug and fill the remainder of the mug with marshmallows. Make a gift tag and be sure to include the directions- “Mix 3-4 tablespoons of the Hot Chocolate Mix into a mug of boiling water, and stir well.” Wrap the filled gift mug with cellophane.

We will be doing Christmas on a budget this year and will be away from home while preparing so I love this idea. Also hoping to do some choc brownie in jars!
