Proud to be an Australian

January 13, 2011 By Spoonful of Sugar - 11 Comments

It has been a devastating week for many Australians with the flooding in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria; and the fires in Western Australia. These disasters have had a massive cost in the loss of life, damage to property and loss of livelihood for many people. It will take a long time for the communities affected to recover and rebuild. What has struck me though is the indomitable australian spirit. The news has been full of inspiring stories and people rallying together to help those in need. The blogging community is also rallying together to help those affected by the Queensland floods. Corrie over at Retromummy has a list of ways you can help. Coles and Woolworths are also collecting donations from shoppers.

I simply cannot imagine what it is like, but it must be devastating. I watch it on the news. So much water. So many people affected.
All the best from the Netherlands.

and aswell here in germany, we see it everyday on the news. it looks horrible. aswell, as in one part there is the flood and in another fire. and we hear, that the australians do not moan and stand together. a lot of other people in this world can learn from your country, how to behave in a desatrous situation. i send all best wishes and the hope for good weather to australia.
    greetings

Dear Lisa, Brasil has been suffering by the flood too. Many many people died and the rain has not stopped. I DO hope Australians and Brasilians can overcome this terrible situation. We pray for your beloved country as well, Lisa! Love! Bela

Australia has certainly had it’s unfair share of tragedy. I helped over at Jodie’s blog (Ric Rac) and I hope everyone can do a little something because it adds up.

And you should be! From afar, it’s been amazing to watch the stories. It’s so sad, but it’s heartwarming to see how everyone has rallied together to help each other!

I agree wholeheartedly Lisa…the Australian spirit is so strong, and never more so than in the face of disaster. Here’s hoping the cleanup will be quicker than they are predicting.
