Has anyone noticed that Men’s clothing is substantially cheaper than Women’s? It doesn’t seem equitable to me, especially as their clothing uses up more fabric! It inspired me to remake some Men’s PJ’s that I bought from the local discount variety store – Big W – to fit me. Men’s PJ’ are often in boring colours and stripes but with the addition of some colourful fabric and trim, I have jazzed them up quite a bit:)
Here is what I did:
- Firstly, the PJ’s had their arms and leg lengths trimmed to fit, and a contrasting polka dot fabric band was attached, with ricrac.
- The Pants were too high waisted for my liking so I cut off the existing band plus a couple of inches to reposition the waist. A colourful drawstring was inserted in the casing, in addition to the elastic,
- to ensure a good fit.
- The buttons have been replaced with fabric covered buttons to match the polka dot bands on the sleeves and legs.
- The collar has been given a ricrac trim.
- Finally a star appliqué has been applied to the pocket.
All in all it was a fun remodel. It is freezing here at the moment so I am yet to try them out – my flannel PJ’s are my preferred option.
Sarah and I recently participated in a Christmas in July swap that was beautifully organised by the super talented Linda and Stephanie! We were most excited to have Barbara from So Many Ideas, So Little Time as our partner. Here is some of what we sent her –

Very funky cool PJs!
What lovely gifts ! I have been known to get around in mens pjs but they’re nowhere as jazzed up as those , great idea .
Christmas in July – fun idea!!! Especially loving the elf like stocking – is there a pattern? It would make a great gift for the girls at work.

I love wearing the Mr’s waaay too big clothes when I’m pottering about the house – but your version is much more glamourous!
Can’t believe I’ve only just discovered your follow button , der!
Those pjs are such a great idea! Look fantastic!
Those PJ’s look great!!! I’ve often pondered on the prices
CUTE jammies! Yes, and I resent the fact that men’s underwear is significantly cheaper than women’s!!! No chance in remaking those to fit women. :o)
LOVE your swap gifts to Barbara. That is one darling stocking.
I love those jammies and those paint chip tags!
I am in love with those paint chip gift tags….so cute and clever! I love the pjs….I will have to be on the lookout for sales in the mens dept.!
I love the gift tags! How clever!
Oh love the idea with the pj’s
love the idea with the pjs.
LOVE what you have done with those PJ’s!!What a terrific idea… And so practical. It’s not fair we women have to pay more for clothing, hair cuts, products, etc! Women unite…Buy men’s PJ’s only!! ;o) Your Christmas in July swap is such fun…super gifts. And love those tree-punched pain cards too–adorable! Your girls sure know how to party! ;o) Happy weekend ((HUGS))
Great jammies. Who wouldn’t want to lounge around in them all day.
Your swap gifts are wonderful. What a clever idea to use paint preview strips for gift labels!
Love those pj’s!
I love the PJs!!! You’re right that most PJs for women are way more expensive than men’s, but they’re also pretty dorky looking, too. But yours are perfect!!

Those PJ’s are adorable. You are very talented! Love all of the items in your swap package, especially the stocking, although it’s hard to wrap my head around Christmas this time of year 🙂

Absolutely brilliant ideas! I desperately want some of those pjs, but am not confident enough in my sewing skills at this point to attempt repositioning a waistband. However, I plan on making some of those paint chip tags tomorrow! Thanks so much for sharing your creativity.
