Hexie Holiday Placemat

October 7, 2017 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 6 Comments

Hexie Holiday Placemat PDF Sewing Pattern available at www.etsy.com/shop/aspoonfullofsugar

The Hexie Holiday Placemat is my newest pattern release and is available now in our Etsy and Pattern Shop. Consisting of a foundation paper pieced tree in the centre, with a simple patchwork border, it is a fun seasonal project for your Christmas table. This placemat can be easily constructed in an afternoon. I really enjoyed making these placemats this week – they were the perfect project to kick start my seasonal sewing. I hope to be super organised this year by getting started early!

The Hexie Holiday Placemats feature the new Cottage fabric range by Tilda. Although not a Christmas range as such, it gives the placemats a modern Scandinavian feel so they can be used any time of year. I love this fabric – it consists of small and large print florals, and leaf prints, in a pretty palette of red, blue, green, pink, and purple.

The Hexie Holiday Placemat can also be used as a trivet or potholder – simply add a layer of insulated batting. Use more traditional Christmas fabrics for a more festive look.

To purchase the pattern, head over to our Pattern Shop and Etsy store. The pdf pattern consists of 10 pages of instructions and photographs, including the template for the foundation paper pieced tree. If you are new to foundation paper piecing, this would be a great project to get you started. The foundation paper pieced tree is fairly quick to construct. It is a fun project to showcase a favourite fabric range.

This pattern is wonderful and the instructions are written very clearly. However, the final product is considerably too small for a dinner plate (for me, at least!) So just be aware that you may need to modify the size (and therefore the amount of fabric required) if you are planning to make a set of these as placemats.
