Face Washer with Crochet Trim

February 21, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 12 Comments

Face Washer with Crochet Trim 1

On a trip to Spotlight this week, I picked up a pack of 6 white Face Washers for $4.99.  I love a good bargain and they were great value but are a little boring. I have decided to challenge myself to decorate them using different techniques so I have a stack of pretty face washers to use as gifts.  Face washers can be great gifts for friends, Nana’s, baby showers, house guests etc. Face washers would also be perfect for a fête or craft stall. You can partner them with some nice soap or body products.

The first project in our Face Washer Challenge is a pretty face cloth with hand crocheted trim.

First up, I delved into my fabric stash and used some pretty Flower Sugar fabric and pink gingham to make a fabric band that went across the bottom of the face washer. It was finished off with a simple crochet shell edging in pink 3 ply crochet cotton along the bottom edge.

If you would like to make your own you will need:

  • white face washer
  • strip of floral fabric that is 3 inches wide x (width of face washer + 1 inch)
  • trip of gingham fabric that is 1 1/2 inches wide x (width of face washer + 1 inch)
  • pink crochet cotton, 3 ply
  • crochet hook, size 2.5 mm

I made the Face Washer with Crochet Trim using the same method as the Guest Towel with Crochet Trim. Check out this post for step by step instructions on adding the fabric and the pattern for the crochet shell edging. If you don’t crochet, you could add some ready-made crocheted lace or trim, or else leave the bottom edge plain.

Stay tuned for the next project in the Face Washer Challenge.

Swipe for a little trip down memory lane.Back in 2016, my priorities were firmly centred around family. I was working full‑time, sewing in the guest room, sharing tutorials on my blog, and slowly dipping my toes into selling a handful of patterns on Etsy. It was a busy, full season — and creativity was something I fitted in around everything else.  Fast forward to 2026… I’m now retired and living the creative life I once dreamed of. My kids have grown up and are living in their own homes nearby. My husband and I are free to travel, explore, and enjoy this stage of life.
