Remember all those projects I have been doing lately with paint cards/chips? The reason I had a stash of paint cards on hand is that we are in the process of updating Sarah’s bedroom. We are still finalising a wall colour (although I can safely say that red and green won’t be making an appearance!) so will show you the finished room when complete.
We have been looking at quilt (duvet) covers and finally found the perfect design. Unfortunately the manufacturer has stopped making it in single (twin) bed size. Our solution was to purchase the King Bed Size and use the left over fabric in some co-ordinating projects.
First up, I have cut the quilt cover down so it now fits the single bed quilt.

I have made a little cushion using squares of the fabric and have sewn a strip of the fabric onto some white sheets to create co-ordinated linen.
Here are the matching sleep shorts with co-ordinating top featuring appliqué detail.

Next up, to make a matching sleeping bag cover and some wall art.
I have also made up some more tissue covers for gifts.

I have also been doing a spot of shopping lately. I found these gorgeous fabrics at Hot Possum.

These fabrics at Textile Traders (AUD$10.99 m!!)

Wheel and Barrow had some new patty pans to add to my extensive collection!

I recently acquired a 1974 set of World Book Encyclopedias (thanks Mum and Dad!) to use in various projects. Sarah has dubbed it “encyclopedia craft”. I have used sections of the text and pictures to create cards, envelopes, and bookmarks. Does anyone have any other projects using old books that they can recommend? I will devote a post soon to some of the best ideas.

cant wait to see the end result very nice so far. Love the materials and the patty pans!! have a great weekend
You are a genius! Who would have thought to cut the duvet cover down and use the rest to make coordinating accessories?
Thanks for the ideas!
They are all so cool, and you are so talented to make all that. I am not so good with the sewing stuff.
Everything looks wonderul, I love the coordinated gifttag on the tissue-holder 🙂
I usually buy duvet-covers at Ikea, and their child-sized covers are much too big for my childrens duvets. So I do the same thing you did…make it the right size and use the rest of the fabric for other projects 🙂
thát’s what I call clever! it looks very appealing.
I love the way you’ve adapted the doona cover and ended up with all of that extra gorgeous fabric to play with….
Old books are great for art collages.
Loving those fabrics!

The makeover is going to be beautiful. You’re so creative and talented. We call them cupcake liners but patty pans sound so much better. Looking forward to your post of the use of old books.
Love the new bed linens. I think it is great what you did with the extra fabric. Your new fabrics are so lovely. Can’t wait to see what you make with them. I had those same encyclopedias, hours spent looking through them.
The coordinating bedroom linens (& PJ’S) are so creative & beautiful. I love the fabrics you’ve added to your stash too – what will they become…

I love all of the coordinating items you have made from that fabric – everything looks great! I can’t wait to see what you use the old encyclopedias for, that is a great idea as well 🙂
I love the choice on the bedroom linens and your extras will make wonderfully special to your daughter as no one else will have them.
Books are wonderful, I altered one last fall and gave it to my Mom for Christmas. It was a Memory book of us throughout the years. Things she had taught me, vacations, good and sad times. I so pleased how it turned out.
Love,
Debxoxo

You are soooo talented. What great little items from left over fabric. The colors are fabulous, you must post pics once everything is painted.
the page of the encyclopedia with the stitching advice is georgeous. one idea i have is to photocopy and enlarge any special pages like that one and then you can use it as backgrounds for journal pages or cut into sections and add it to tags for stitching gifts or simply use it as wrapping paper!

One of my very best friends gave me an altered home-ec book for my birthday! I posted it on October 28! I love it! I know you probably wouldn’t want to use encyclopedia books for angels, but she has also made my mom an angel from an old hymnal!
Your fabrics are so fresh and fun. I love them.
Oh my god…you are one talented little bunny..
The whole idea of using the king size set and cutting it down for the twin and using the extra fabric is ingenious! I am going to keep this idea in my head. All of your coordinating accessories are awesome : )
