Anzac Day is the day we honour our Armed Forces who served during World War I and II. I am proud to be the grand daughter of two men who served their country. My paternal grandfather was one of the original ANZACs who fought at Gallipoli in WWI, and in France and Belgium in WWII. My maternal Grandfather served in New Guinea in WWII (My Mum is the cute little girl in the photo above). Grandad recently turned 90, and despite his failing health is still going to attend ANZAC services today. We love you Grandad!!
Anzac Day 2007
I am very proud of my 14 year old son who was selected to attend the Smart Moves Invention Convention in Canberra this week. He was one of thirty high school students from around the country who received an all expenses paid trip to Canberra where he learnt skills to commercialise his invention . He has an innovation patent on his design for Party Mate – a device that clips a beverage (wine, beer can, glass) onto a plate to provide “an extra hand” at parties. I can’t show you a picture of his design just yet but this is him hard at work building the prototype! He was a finalist in the WA Inventor of the Year Schools Competition in 2008 for his design .
Receiving Award from Steve Wozniak (Co-founder of Apple Computers) and Professor Lyn Beasley (Chief Scientist of WA)
As no post would be complete without a crafty update, I will leave you with a peak at a quilt I have been working on this week!
Here is some lovely Andalucia fabric that will be put to good use soon.

Well done to your son, i hope he learnt lots and came home with a few contacts. My dad marches every year in the parade and unfortunately this year he wont be able to as he is in poor health. My son was asked to march as part of his cadet unit so he can represent my dad.

Well done to your son! I think it is a terrific idea. I hate it at parties when you have a plate of something in one hand and a drink in the other. I am sure his invention will be a great success.
And many thanks to your Grandad. My Grandfathers also served in WWII and I always try to remember how much of their youth they sacrificed for us.

I think we have a great deal in common. I have a particular fondness for all related to the greatest generation, as I grew up mesmerized by the many stories told so often by my grandmother – who would also have been 90 this year. Neither I nor my children will ever forget! Blessings and thanks to your grandad.
Changing channels – how did my dad get into that family picture of yours? The little fellow in you pic looks just like his childhood photos!
And last but NOT least – a big CONGRATS on your son’s achievements. Over-the-top fabulous!
