Recipe type: Cookies
Cuisine: Baking
Serves: 48
Ingredients
  • 1½ sticks (170 g) butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 cups sugar + ¼ cup for coating cookie balls
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups plain flour
Instructions
  1. Line cookie sheets with baking paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix melted butter and 1 cup sugar. Add egg, syrup, baking soda, and vanilla. Mix in flour. Stir until well-combined.
  3. Cover mixing bowl, and allow your dough to chill in the fridge for at least an hour, or freeze for 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 deg C (175 deg C)
  4. Pull your bowl out of the fridge. Roll your dough into 1-1/2 inch balls with your palms.
  5. Fill a small bowl with remaining ½ cup sugar. Roll each ball in the sugar to coat.
  6. Line cookie sheet with baking paper. Place cookie balls at least 2 inches apart on your cookie sheet. Press down with the back of a spoon.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.

How many eggs? These sound yummy and simple and I want to try them, but because you refer to eggs (and just list 1 large eggs) I am unsure…. Thanks! Becky C.

Thank you for the recipe I made them and they were a hit with my family. You certainly do get a good amount out of the mix.

They were delicious! One question though: there’s a slight bitter aftertaste and my mother-in-law suggested maybe there’s a bit too much baking soda in the recipe and that’s causing the bitterness? Would the cookies still rise properly with 1 tsp of baking soda?
