Rainbow Connection Pillow

If you follow us on instagram, you will have seen some progress shots of our Rainbow Connection Pillow over the past days. This is our newest pattern and was so much fun to sew! I love how colourful it is with each block showcasing a different colour. It was fun to sort through my fabric scraps to find fabrics in each colour. It is a great scrap buster project! I combined floral prints, polka dots, ginghams, stripes, and small scale retro prints; with a bunch of volume fabric scraps. The contrast between the bright colours and the low volume fabrics, really makes the colours pop.

The pattern consists of nine pineapple blocks that are foundation paper pieced. Each block measures just 5 inches square when finished, so the foundation piecing ensures accurate results.

I made each block in a different colour, mixed with some low volume fabric scraps. You could change the look of the pillow completely by changing your fabric selection.

The 10 page ePattern comes with plenty of photos and the foundation paper piecing template (ready to print in both A4 and Letter size) that you need for the block construction.

The Rainbow Connection Pillow is finished with a zipper and measures 18 x 18 inches. It’s colourful appearance makes it perfect for a children’s bedroom or playroom, although a different colour choice could change the look completely.

Oh Lisa this is so beautiful and have just bought it from Craftsy. You introduced me to a new world with the Heart of the Home pattern and am looking forward to having a go at this one…….maybe a bit more challenging? Thank you for your wonderful work.

Thanks for your sweet message Jenny! This is slightly more advanced than the Heart of the Home but if you have a basic understanding of foundation piecing you will be fine. Hope you enjoy making the project. Happy sewing.

For those who are new here — hi, I’m Lisa 👋 And th For those who are new here — hi, I’m Lisa 👋 And this is the story of how a simple mother‑daughter blog changed my life.Back in 2008, my 11‑year‑old daughter and I started a little blog to share our sewing, crafts, and baking with family and friends. At the time, I was working as an occupational therapist, and sewing was my creative escape — something fun we could do together. But over the years, that tiny blog grew. I began contributing sewing patterns to books and magazines… I even wrote my own sewing book… And slowly, what started as a hobby became a side hustle — and a dream I quietly held onto. In early 2024, I retired from the public service and finally took the leap into full‑time creative work. Now I’m happily self‑employed in retirement — designing patterns, creating content, and sharing the joy of sewing with this wonderful community. It’s been the most unexpected, fulfilling chapter… and I’m so grateful you’re here.✨ Tell me — what’s YOUR dream job? I’d love to hear your story too. #sewingstory #meetthemaker #creativelife #sewistsofinstagram #sewingcommunity

If you’ve ever mixed up your fabrics while foundat If you’ve ever mixed up your fabrics while foundation paper piecing, this little trick will save you so much time. When I’m working on my Woven Basket block, I quickly colour‑code the foundation paper with markers so each section matches the fabric I’m using. It keeps everything clear, accurate, and stress‑free — especially with blocks that have lots of movement and woven detail. This simple step makes such a difference to the final finish, and it works beautifully across all four of my woven quilt blocks.
