Triangle Quilt (Part 3)

April 14, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 11 Comments

Mormor Triangle Quilt draped on sofa

The Mormor Triangle Quilt is now finished. You can read more about the construction process in Mormor Triangle Quilt and Triangle Quilt (Part 2). This quilt came together really quickly and could have been completed in a weekend if I had more sewing/quilting time. The large equilateral triangle design is perfect for showcasing  bold prints. Using a 60 ° Triangle Ruler, I cut the triangles at 8 1/2 inches in height (from the tip to the bottom). As some of the prints were directional, I was only able to get 4 triangles of this size from each fat quarter of fabric.

I have had a few requests on how to sew triangles together. I was going to put together a tutorial but did a quick internet search and found a few great tutorials with lots of step by step photos. If you would like to find out some tips/tricks for sewing triangles, check out these tutorials.

Hi! I love this quilt and would like knowing more about how much fabric you used. This came up when I searched “fat quarter quilts” – is that what you used for this? Thank you.

Hi Anne – Sorry for the delay in responding 🙂 I used a fat quarter bundle for this quilt and cut approx 2 triangles from each fat quarter.

What are final dimentions? Also, can you expain sides? Did you use triangles them cut in half when squaring up. Plus, how many yards of white triangles, backing and binding? I may use yardage. Do you know approximatly much of each should I use. I may stick to a similar color for triagles viarous colors, but love the line you used.
