My Mum was always liked to give home made gifts at Christmas. When I was a child/teen, I would love to help her make the Christmas gifts. Each year she came up with a project, and then made it up in different colours/fabrics to suit the recipients. Some of the gift ideas included: aprons, pot holders, string holders, etc. One year we even made up Macramé pot holders (I was enlisted to make them – it was the 70’s after all!).
One of my favourite Christmas projects was the Peanut Pillow. It was handy travel sized pillow, shaped like a peanut, that was useful when going on long road trips or when relaxing in the bean bag etc. I was reflecting on the peanut pillows recently, and tweaked the pattern and made one up in more modern fabrics. I also added a hanging loop.
Peanut pillows are especially useful for anyone with a neck problem as they are soft, and support the cervical curve of the neck. We are planning a family holiday which will include a rather long place flight – perhaps the family will all find one of these in their Christmas stocking this year!

Just sitting here in my recliner I can see there is a space behind my head as I read my blogs and I think.. hmmm that peanut pillow would fit great and be so comfy.. NICE!

This is such an adorable pillow! I love the shape, which also looks quite comfortable. I wish our family was still into exchanging handmade gifts. Nowadays, it’s just me and my sister who like to make presents.

Oh I love this, I always keep a pillow like this in the car for longer trips and especially plane travel! Where is this trip off to?? Glad you weren’t leaving in the chaos this weekend.

We make pillows like that in our family too. They are shaped ever so slightly differently-more like a dog bone! I have given a few to friends recovering from mastectomies and have been told they are the perfect pillow for supporting the arm on that side.I bet your peanut pillow would work just as well.
Oh yes…I remember them…great post…and love your blog…my daughter who runs our blog for us told me to come across and take a look…going to pour some tea…um yes… with a spoonful of sugar 😉 and read through your older posts!
