It has been a long time since I’ve spent most of the day in front of my sewing machine. Life has been so busy lately and I’m usually lucky to grab a few minutes here and there to work on a quick project. There is something very therapeutic about giving yourself permission to just relax and enjoy the process. Today was my day off and I had the house to myself. Bliss!
I received a stack of Mormor fabric by Lotta Jansdotter for Windham Fabrics and have been looking forward to turning it into a quilt. Mormor, like Lotta Jansdotter’s previous lines, contains Scandinavian inspired prints. Designs include flowers, leaves and organic shapes in a modern palette of greys, eggplant, coral, emerald, and orange.
I have been planning an equilateral triangle quilt for a while now and this was the perfect fabric. Using a 60 degree angle triangle ruler, the pieces were cut in no time. I wanted to really showcase the fabric so cut the triangles at 8 1/2 inches in height and alternated the triangles with white homespun.
I pieced most of the top today. Now I just need another day at home to sandwich the quilt and make a start on the quilting.

I’ve loved all of Lotta’s fabric ranges, but this one, with its pretty colour palette is really appealing! And of course a triangle quilt is high on my ‘bucket list’!

I really like the layout you used for this fabric. Each one of the designs is very nice and by surrounding each one by the white, it showcases the individual designs. Very nice! I hope you post a picture of the finished project. 🙂

I have never made a quilt before but I am going to make a triangle one like this, I love it! Can you direct me to a good tutorial for the method you use?
I didn’t follow a tutorial. You may find it easier to make a quilt using squares for your first quilt as joining the triangles to get nice points is a little trickier. My question; how do you join the triangles? It isn’t immediately obvious to me, looking at the pictures you’ve taken here.
I am also interested in a triangle quilt, but am not sure where to start. Maybe do you have a recommendation on where I can learn more?

Hi Lana – I am currently doing the binding and will have the finished quilt to show soon. I will take a few photos of how to join the triangles and show them in my next post. Should be ready in approx 1 week. Otherwise google “eqilateral triangle quilt tutorial” and it will bring up some posts on how to make them. Hope that helps.
