Made for Baby Book Review and Tour

May 8, 2017 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 4 Comments

Made for Baby, Cute Sewn Gifts by Ayda Algin

Made for Baby, Cute Sewn Gifts is the newly released and much anticipated book by the talented Ayda Algin from Cafenohut. It is packed full of sweet and practical items to make for babies and little ones. What I love most about the book is that all the projects are photographed in Ayda’s signature style – it is such a pretty book and will certainly inspire you to give the gift of handmade at your next baby shower. Made for Baby includes 22 beautiful projects including toys, pillows, bag, clothing, and items to decorate the nursery. Projects are suitable for the confident beginner and include a variety of techniques including sewing, patching, and embroidery. There are plenty of tips for customising the projects with special ribbons, trims, and other sweet details to really make the project your own.

Drawstring Fabric Bag

The hard part was deciding which project to make first! There are so many wonderful gift items to select from in Made for Baby. I started with the drawstring fabric bag which is perfect for holding a gift, toys, clothes etc. I found the perfect fabric from South Korean brand, Daily Like, on a recent trip to Seoul. Featuring rockets, astronauts, and stars it was ideal for a baby boy gift. The drawstring bag features three appliqued circles (I choose to attach mine with needleturn applique); a ribbon tag; and crocheted lace.

Drawstring Fabric Bag

The drawstring bag is fully lined and will be a perfect gift bag for a sweet baby boy gift. Ayda has included plenty of instructions, photographs, and illustrations to assist with the project construction.

I couldn’t resist making the House Wall Organiser with its pretty clamshell roof and embroidered details. I used a bundle of Atsuko Matsuyma fabric from Ministry of Fabric that I combined with polka dots, ginghams, and stripes. The organiser features a handy pocket for holding a few items and would be a real feature in a nursery.
