I don’t usually play with paper as textiles are more my thing. However over the past week I have experimented with some paper projects.
As I have admitted recently, I love baking cupcakes! I love their individual proportions, the ability to decorate each one individually and I love using my extensive collection of paper liners. This week I have been playing with making little colourful flags to decorate them with.

I took some cardstock, some double sides tape, and some little wooden toothpicks. I cut the card into 1 inch x 3 inch pieces, which I folded in half, and then inserted a little toothpick and then adhered it together with double sided tape. So quick but very effective. I then inserted them into my white chocolate mudcake cupcakes and voila!

A friend and I have decided to get together at least every 3 months for a craft morning. We had our inaugural crafty morning last week and made lots of greeting cards. Here are some of my favourites!

I recently came across this seam guide recently – such a useful little gadget as it magnetizes to the base plate of the sewing machine to create a guide for sewing. It is especially useful for beginner sewers, children, or the visually challenged. I think I have gotten my $3 worth out of it already! Sarah can’t wait to try it out.

I had a few enquiries on where I got my Japanese craft magazine pictured in the previous post. I found this great eBay seller who has an extensive collection of gorgeous craft magazines. She has displayed plenty of pictures out of each issue so it makes it easier to browse. She also has an etsy shop.

I love the cupcakes! They look delicious and the flags are so cute! I like your cards too! I borrowed my cousins “Cricut” machine and will be making my own cards this week. I’ve never used it so I’m really excited.
That guide looks great, where do they come from?
Love the cupcakes. I thought they had the southern cross stars on them. The flags are so cute. Great for boys birthdays.
Thanks for the link but I think I had better stay away from there. My bank account will thank me.
Those cakes are flag-tastic! I am off to talk to my sewing machine lady about one of those seam-guidey-thingo’s! Jen
ooh i love them all, but those flags are SO cute! that would be adorable for a kid’s birthday party!
The flags make the cupcakes look amazing! And the cards are wonderful…
Lovely flags and cards but what I want to know is how when you make cupcakes they come out exactly the right size, mine always either spill over the case or just cover the bottom?
Lisa x
Your cards are lovely!!
The cards are beautiful. Great job. Very creative with the flags on the cupcake. Very Martha Stewart.
Your cupcakes look delicious, what a great idea with the flags.
cute cakes……….wheer did you get the magnetic thing??
Those cupcakes look fantastic. The greeting cards look wonderful and what a great little gadget – although how would it go with one of the newer computerized sewing machines? Would it interfer with the electronic settings?
What a great idea having a crafty get together every 3 months! Any more than that would get a little crazy, and any less would seem like too long between crafting.
I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for one of those magnetic seam guides; a friend of mine who lives interstate raves about how great they are too.
Lovely little cupcakes, and thanks for the tips on paper-made flags – they’d be a great idea using holiday themes such as Christmas, etc.
The cupcakes look great. I love the little flags, what a great idea. I think a craft day with a friend sounds like a lot of fun! it looks like you were very productive.
The cupcakes look yummy – and the flags are so cute – I would have never thought to do that. And your cards are gorgeous!!
Kris

Ooh those cupcakes! Yum! They look so good and the flags are such a perfect extra cute flourish!
The magnetic thing on your sewing machine looks amazing. I’ve never seen that before it sounds like such a good idea, I’m forever just winging it with seam allowances!
Hello I just come from Wens blog, you have such a wonderful blog. I love your cupcakes.
So cute and I love the photo!
How great are craft mornings with friends? We have a little group of 3 who meet regularly for our crafting and eating sessions and it’s wonderful – especially when it’s cold and miserable outside. Your flags are fab – and I love your blog!

Oh how sweet are they…love them! Perfect for parties 🙂

Love the little flags, great for a colour themed party. For Fletchers first birthday I made flags for the sandwich plates and wrote on what was on the sandwiches, like vegemite etc.
Oh those cupcakes look yummy! Love the cards as well. You have a wonderful blog, I will be back!
What great flags, brilliant for tea time treats!
you are full of the best ideas ever! Love the cupcakes!
The cards look fantastic as do the cupcakes – beautiful work as always Lisa
Those cupcakes look delicious and I love the little flags. Such a cute touch.
What a great idea with the little flags … nice to see things that can be used for boys!
What GREAT cupcakes! Yummmmy. I just love your blog…it is so happy!
Great cupcakes and cards. Now Im joining in the chorus. Where does one find one of those magnetic seam guides? Cheers
Libby
Beautiful cards. Great cupcake idea, but I guess they won’t post very well for a taste session. They look very tasty though
The cards look great! They are so 3D which is something I love in a card. It makes it all so much more exciting than just a flat paper card.
Some cutie cupcakes there girl! Niki
Love those flags – the cupcakes look wonderful!
Great idea for the cupcakes.
love the litle flags – and I agree with periwinkle about the size of the cupcakes!
your seam guide looks great, and fantastic for a child, my daughter (9) has just started to use my machine, and she’s been using a 1/4 inch seam foot.
Cool idea to add the little flags to your cupcakes, Lisa.
Wow! Love the results of your crafty morning with a friend. Gorgeous cards!
It all turned out so nice. You should play with paper more often.
the flags are adorable, i too love to make cupcakes. my favorite flags are the ones with the cut in them. the cards look really cute too. i need to check into one of those seam guides. does it only do one width of seam?
That stitch guide makes perfect sense. I’ve seen one at my mum’s but never knew what it was. Brilliant idea, however I now have a quarter inch foot and that has made life a lot easier.
very cute!
and i love the craft books ..
gotta get me some of those.
love
I simply love those flags – how cute are they!!! Cupcakes – yum!
Love the flags…isn’t it fun to do something new now and then!
Mmmm cupcakes!
I really wanted/needed a seam guide but unfortunately I traded up to a computerised sewing machine and magnets are a no-no around it. I was really annoyed to find that out slightly too late!
Those cupcakes are soooo dreamy!!!!
