Christmas Stars

December 3, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

It wouldn’t be Christmas without some handmade Christmas decorations. I have long admired German Christmas Stars (also known as Froebel Stars; Nordic Stars; Advent Stars; and Christmas Stars) for their lovely 3 D effect.  They are quite easy to make from four long strips of paper (ratio of 1:30) and can be made in any size.

I found a roll of white paper florists ribbon in my craft cupboard, left over from a floristry course I did many years ago. Using strips of ribbon that was 2.5 cm in width, and 90 cm in length, I made up a bunch of stars.

Once you have made the first one, they are quite fast to fold. You can make them into a wreath, hang them on your Christmas tree, make a garland, use them to decorate packages, or scatter them around your mantelpiece. I am planning on setting up my Christmas Tree this week and these stars will be the perfect addition to our Nordic inspired tree.

I found a great tutorial to make Froebel Stars with lots of step by step photos at Craft Ideas.  The Christmas stars are shown here with some vintage Christmas sheet music from my Grandmothers collection.

Tried these last year but I think I need to have another go – they look so nice in that glass bowl. Perfect for a window too. Thanks for the tutorial hint.

I love these stars, too. There is a ‘cube’-version of them. If you got the idea, it’s not much more complicated than the normal one. I made them in December 2012. You can see them on my blog.
    hava anice Christmas time!
    greetings from Germany, Rike

Also known as Moravian stars. I love making small ones and tying a thread on them to hang on trees.
