Bunny Trail Projects

June 21, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 9 Comments

Bunny Trail Fabric by Jodie Carlton for Ella Blue Fabrics

Have you seen the new Bunny Trail fabric by Jodie Carlton of Ricrac fame for Ella Blue Fabrics? It is the sweetest range – bunnies, radishes, carrots, flowers, and more! I love the pastel colours – pinks, blues, greens, yellows, and pops of orange and red. Totally delightful and perfect to use in baby or children’s projects, not to mention Easter sewing! Bunny Trail will be available in June/July.

Retro Pillow made using Bunny Trail fabric by Jodie Carlton for Ella Blue Fabrics

I made a Retro Pillow using the Bunny Trail fabric (plus some co-ordinating stripes from the Ella’s Basics range). The Retro Pillow is one of the patterns in my book, A Spoonful of Sugar. It is constructed from machine sewn hexagons, has a hidden zippered backing, and is finished with a crocheted edging. It is a great pattern to really highlight all the fabrics in a range.

The backing can be made from 3 fat quarters. The zipper is hidden behind the placket which makes for a neat finish on the back, and is a great way to showcase more fabrics.

The crocheted edging is added to a blanket stitch foundation.I found the perfect pink crochet cotton for the edging. If you don’t like to crochet, the pillow could be finished with ready made lace or even a colourful pompom trim. Full project instructions and template are available in my book.

Machine sewn hexagons are fast to assemble, making this project easy to complete over a weekend.

Zakka Face Cloth made using Bunny Trail fabric by Jodie Carlton for Ella Blue Fabrics

I made a Zakka Face Washer to match. They are a useful gift for new babies and can be used as a face cloth or burp cloth. The Quiet Bunnies print, in their pink ombre tones, were perfect for a face cloth. You can find the free tutorial for the Zakka Face Washer here. It can be made in under an hour for when you need a little gift in a hurry!

Thanks to Jodie Carlton and Ella Blue for supplying the sweet Bunny Trail fabric.
