{Book Review} Like Grandma Used to Make

April 11, 2013 By Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment

Like Grandma Used to Make, by Rebecca Sullivan, is a beautifully styled book which celebrates and preserves the the recipes and home skills from Grandmothers everywhere. The book shares more than 100 recipes and home crafts. What we love most about the book is the beautiful way it has been styled. The vintage china, table linens, doilies, silverware, and haberdashery supplies, compliment the recipes and home tips and take you back to a simpler time when families used to gather around Grandma’s kitchen table.
The book is divided into chapters – For the Larder; For the Meat Seat; For the Ice Chest; From the Garden,  and Baking and Sweet Treats. It is also interspersed with hand hints and tips to help you in and around your home, such as making candles, natural beauty treatments, and simple home cleaners. Some of the recipes that caught our eye were the Pumpkin Pikelets, Lavender and Lemon Shortbread, and Marmalade ANZACS.
The book would make a lovely gift for Mother’s Day for anyone who enjoys vintage and nostalgia. It is a handy resource to have for anyone wishing to live a simpler life.
Like Grandma Used to Make is available from The Book Depository and Fishpond.
