We love sewing and haberdashery gadgets – anything that makes our sewing time easier and more efficient is always welcome. We were recently sent a Seam Allowance Guide by Jodie from The Haby Goddess to review. We can’t believe that we have never come across this handy little gadget before! It is so simple and effective, and best of all saves you time.
If you love Japanese sewing books, Ottobre Design Magazine, Burda Style Magazine as much as we do, you will be familiar with having to mark out your seam allowance after you have traced the pattern. We usually have a ruler handy and mark out the seam allowance before we start cutting. It is a little frustrating and time consuming ensuring you have an even seam allowance – once you have decided upon a project or garment, you just want to fast forward to the sewing part.
The Seam Allowance Guide by Hollie is a nifty little gadget that you attach to your scissors. It has a really strong magnet that holds it in place. You adjust the black ring to the desired seam allowance width, and then use it as a guide for cutting. The Seam Allowance Guide comes with two guides – the yellow guide fits scissors that have a sloping edge, and the green is for non sloping edge scissors. You simply cut around the pattern, keeping the black ring even with the pattern edge. Easy peasy!
If you need any sewing accessories, gadgets, haberdashery and craft supplies, pop on over to the The Haby Goddess and check our Jodie’s extensive range.

I saw that nifty little gadget advertised in a magazine recently (can’t remember which one) and thought at the time how clever it was.
