Pot of Gold

March 12, 2013 By Spoonful of Sugar - 4 Comments

If you are after a fun St Patrick’s Day craft activity to do with kids, make a Pot of Gold. We made this one a few years ago for a Magazine feature on Kids Birthday Party ideas. One party theme was for an Enchanted Forest Party which included our Pot of Gold.
If you would like to make your own, you will need:
  • Terracotta Pot
  • Shredded green cellophane (Easter grass)
  • Gold chocolate coins
  • Chenille sticks (pipe cleaners) Β in rainbow colours
  • Ribbon
  • hobby glue
  • masking tape (painters tape)

Decorate the rim of the pot with a length of ribbon. Use some hobby glue to hold it in place. Position the chenille sticks in the rainbow order and bend to create the rainbow shape. Tape the ends of the chenille sticks in place.Β

Fill a terracotta pot with shredded cellophane and chocolate coins.

Maybe it's just me, but I think every sewist has a Maybe it's just me, but I think every sewist has a piece of fabric they're a little afraid to cut into.

You know the one.

The fabric that's too pretty, too special, or waiting for the perfect project.

I've certainly been guilty of saving beautiful Liberty fabrics for "someday". But over the years I've realised something:

The joy isn't in owning the fabric.

The joy is in turning it into something you'll use, display, gift, or enjoy every day.

Some of my favourite sewing projects began with a Liberty fabric I was hesitant to cut into. Looking back, I've never regretted using it. The only fabrics I've regretted are the ones that sat folded away for years waiting for the perfect moment.

Beautiful fabric deserves to become something beautiful.
