9 Ways to Use Candy Canes

December 3, 2013 By A Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment

Candy Canes are a versatile Christmas treat! Personally we prefer the mint flavoured variety and love to use them in our Christmas decorating and baking. We always have a pack on hand to use during the festive season. When the teens were in primary school, they would receive a candy cane and a Christmas card from their classmates so we always had more candy canes that we knew what to do with! Now we just buy a pack or two to incorporate into our Christmas projects.

Here are some of our favourite Candy Cane ideas. (Click on the link under the photos to be taken to the original post).

Candy Cane Cupcakes
Chocolate cupcakes decorated with a peppermint buttercream and shards of crushed candy canes – delicious!
Christmas Table Setting
Decorate your Christmas place setting with candy canes for a festive touch! We added a sprig of pine and a candy cane to plain cotton napkins and tied with some stripy ribbon.
Candy Cane Milkshake

Candy Cane Milkshakes are so delicious! Add some crushed candy canes to a vanilla milkshake. Yummmm…

Chocolate Spoons
Chocolate Spoons are lovely swirled through hot chocolate! We add some crushed candy canes to our chocolate spoons and packaged them in cellophane bags tied with ribbon. They made a sweet gift.

Santa’s Sleigh
These Santa Sleighs are made from a Santa Chocolate, two kit kat bars, and two candy canes. They are a fun Christmas treat for kids.
Gift for Chocolate Lovers
Package a selection of chocolates, chocolate spoons, and candy canes in a coffee mug for a special gift for a Chocolate Lover.
Christmas Candy Buffet
We have started the tradition of a Candy/ Lolly Buffet at Christmas and always add a few candy canes to our line up. Check out our Gingham Buffet and our Red/Aqua Buffet.
Candy Cane Truffles
Rich Chocolate Truffles with candy cane pieces, rolled in coconut. These make a lovely after dinner treat at Christmas time.
Candy Cane Cookies

Candy Cane Cookies have become a popular Christmas treat in our home. Sarah bakes a big batch each year and they never last long!

Some of the other ways we have used candy canes include:

  • Hanging candy canes from the Christmas tree
  • Attaching candy canes to gifts
  • Candy cane ice-cream
  • Candy cane macarons

What are your favourite uses for candy canes?
