If you love cats and quilts, you will adore the Sleepy Cat Coaster Mugrug. Featuring a cosy sleepy kitty tucked under a hexagonal patchwork quilt with ricrac trim. This sweet sewing pattern is purrfect for all cat lovers.
The pattern includes a variety of options for the cat face.
- You can leave the face unadorned (as shown below) in the pimitive style.
- You can embroider a face using two strands of floss. The template for the face is included in the pattern.
- If you have a digital cutting machine (such as Silhouette or Cricut) you can cut a face using heat transfer material. You can then iron it in place on the coaster. I have included two face options in the pattern – one with fancy eyelashes and one plain. They are included as svg and dxf files to suit a variety of cutting machines.
The quilt is made using the English Paper Piecing technique in hexagons and half hexagons. If you are new to English Paper Piecing (EPP), this is a fun introductory project for you to practice the basics.
Don’t like English Paper Piecing, you can use a cheater panel for a faux quilt look.
For the Sleepy Cat Coasters shown here, I’ve used scraps of fabric from a couple of fabric collections by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs. The smalls cale prints in bright colours work well. Ricrac trim is the perfect finishing touch.
The Sleepy Cat Coaster is available in our Pattern Store and Etsy Shop for immediate download. Listing includes a 14 page ePattern with comprehensive instructions, professionally drawn illustrations, photographs, and full sized templates. Also included is the cutting files for two styles of cat face if you wish to cut them using heat transfer material.
