Sewing Tip: Use a Lint Roller in Your Sewing Room

April 19, 2024 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 1 Comment

Welcome to our new series of Sewing Tips!

Today, I am going to share uses in the sewing room for the humble lint roller.

A lint roller is a handy tool consisting of a roll of one-sided adhesive paper on a barrel that’s mounted on a central spindle with an attached handle, designed to remove lint, hair, and other small fibers from various materials like clothing, upholstery, and linen.

Lint rollers are widely available and can be purchased at many retail locations, including IKEA, where you can find the BÄSTIS lint roller with 40 sticky sheets.

For those looking for sustainable options, there are reusable lint rollers that use a tacky surface instead of adhesive paper, which can be washed and reused.

Top Use for the Lint Roller

– Say goodbye to pesky threads! Use a lint roller over seams after unstitching to snatch up those stubborn bits.

– Before you vacuum, roll away! A lint roller can catch those threads on the floor, saving your vacuum from a tangled mess.

– Keep your cutting mat pristine with a quick lint roller sweep – it’s a debris magnet!

– Surround your sewing machine with cleanliness; a lint roller can make the area lint and thread-free in seconds.

– Open pre-cut fabric packs without the mess. A lint roller swipe can minimize the lint fallout.

– Dropped pins? No problem! Roll a lint roller over them for an easy pick-up.

– Design walls can stay clean and clear of threads with a simple lint roller touch-up.

– Tiny buttons and beads won’t get lost if you roll them up with a lint roller – they’ll stick until you need them.

– Dusting around open fabric storage? A lint roller does the job without kicking up dust.

– Pet hair on your projects? A lint roller will make your finished pieces pet-hair-free.

– Before gifting a quilt, give it a once-over with a lint roller for that perfect, clean finish.

– Don’t carry your work with you! A lint roller over your clothes keeps thread and lint out of the rest of your home.

– For seamless sewing sessions, station a lint roller by your machine, another by the iron, and pop one in your sewing bag for on-the-go tidiness.

🧵✂️ Ready to roll into a cleaner, more efficient sewing experience? Grab that lint roller and let’s get rolling! What is your favourite use for a lint roller? Have any other tips to keep your sewing room clean? Share in the comments.
