“Sew Cute to Cuddle” Book Review and Giveaway

August 15, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 92 Comments

Sew Cute to Cuddle by Mariska Vos-Bolman

Sew Cute to Cuddle by Mariska Vos Bolman is an inspiring book full of sweet patterns for soft toys and animals to sew.  There is a lovely range of toys including an owl, monkey, koala, hippo, and dragon. The designs are modern and fresh and really appeal to young children.  The toys are graded in difficulty with most suitable for beginner sewers. The instructions are very detailed, with loads of diagrams and tips to guide you through the process. Even if you are a softie making beginner, you should be able to tackle the designs with confidence.

Sew Cute to Cuddle

Sew Cute to Cuddle has a helpful tools and techniques section which covers soft toy making techniques such as stitching ans stuffing, as well as advice on selecting fabrics and tools to use. Full sized patterns are included in the book so you can trace the templates and get straight to work. The hard part is deciding which toy to make first!

koala1

By varying the fabrics, you can give the toys a lot of individual personality. I think my favourite is Missy the Koala – I do have a soft spot for Aussie animals! She is super cute in her pink dress with matching hair bow.

Monkey1

Sew Cute to Cuddle is available from Stitch Craft Create. They stock a large range of sewing books.  The lovely people at F & W Media are giving one lucky reader the chance to win a copy of Sew Cute to Cuddle. My Mr 5 had a run in with a stick blender on Monday – some finger surgery later – I am sure a new softie would put a smile on his face. Although I am planning on making my 2 nephews and neice a softie for Christmas whilst they are still little enough to enjoy them.

Some of these characters remind me of when I was a child and with no children in our lives to pass these cuties on to I would likely make a batch for me and a batch to give away to the children of friends. My fave is the Koala, she is super cute and Australia is a place I’d love to visit but likely won’t have the opportunity to do so.

She made a huge impact on my life and really opened my eyes to what children in adoption agencies had to go through. So today, I’ve often donate my own handmade toys to the children at local children’s homes and I’m sure these animals would make a lot of children smile!
