With just over a month until Father’s Day for Aussie dad’s, we will be sharing some more quick gift ideas. This weeks project is a Business Card Wallet made from leather and thick wool felt, and featuring a small ribbon tag. This project couldn’t be easier! Sized to hold business cards, it can be made in around 15 minutes and has a simple modern look. Perfect project for a beginner sewer.
Materials:
- small piece of leather, cut to 4 x 2 3/4 inches
- small piece of thick wool felt (approximately 3 mm thick) cut to 4 x 2 3/4 inches
- 1.5 inches of striped ribbon, 1/2 inch wide.
Using a CD or a small side plate, round one of the short edges of leather as shown in the photograph below.
Fold the ribbon in half, and pin in place approximately 1/2 inch from the bottom right hand corner.
Layer the leather on top of the felt rectangle and hold in place with clips.
Stitch around the two sides and the bottom of the wallet using a scant 1/8 inch seam allowance. We used a leather needle in our sewing machine which is great for sewing through leather.
The Business Card Holder is great for business cards, for holding a bus/train pass or to store a gift card (or cash) for gift giving. If you need other ideas for sewing gifts for men, check out our Men’s Business Card Wallet, Golf Towel, Men’s Shoe Bag, and BBQ Grill Mitt and Towel.

This is a great gift idea! It could so easily be adapted to suit anyone too – with colors to match the branding of anyone’s business.
My favorite part is that the felt and leather have finished edges already. Just three stretches of stitches and it’s finished!!
Thanks for the inspiration!
