Sewing Tool Roundup #6

Welcome to our sixth Sewing Tool Round-up where we review new (or new to us) quilting and sewing tools, notions, haberdashery and craft supplies.  You can find our previous reviews here.

Valdani Threads

  1. Valdani Pearl Cotton

Valdani hand dyed pearl cotton is available in three sizes – 5, 8,and 12. Made from Egyptian cotton, it can be used for a variety of projects including embroidery, quilting, appliqué, crochet, and more. I recently bought this Rainbow Light collection in medium weight (size 8) from Massdrop.  I will use it to crochet small colourful doileys and other projects; as well as use if for some hand embroidery. Valdani comes is a wide range of colours and weights, making it ideal for many different applications.

I am working on a crochet project at the moment – and this thread crochets beautifully and is a lovely quality. There is a huge range of colours in both solid and variegated.

Cosmo Embroidery Hoops by Lecien

2. Cosmo Embroidery Hoops (10 cm / 4 inch)

When I spotted these pretty Cosmo Embroidery hoops (by Lecien) – I had to buy them in all the colours! They are so sweet and would make perfect frames for your little stitcheries. Made from Japanese Cypress Wood, they come complete with a nickel plated closure and are a lovely quality. I purchased these from Studio Mio.  I have some plans for these pretty hoops – stay tuned!

Fiskars Self Healing Cutting Mat

3. Fiskars Cutting Mat

My new cutting table (Stenstorp Kitchen Island from Ikea) looks even better, now I have a Fiskars 24 x 36 inch cutting mat in light grey. The self healing cutting mat is printed on both sides so will provide double the usage. It provides ample space for cutting patchwork pieces and has 30-, 45- and 60-degree bias lines to make cutting triangles and other shapes a breeze. It is easy to wipe clean. One side is light grey – perfect for dark fabrics, and the reverse side is dark grey which is great for cutting lighter fabrics.  I have been using this Fiskars Cutting Mat for a couple of months now and it is a great quality.

Tilda adhesive fabric tape

4. Tilda Adhesive Fabric Tape

Tilda fabric and craft supplies, are designed by Norwegian designer, Tone Finnanger. The latest ranges of Tilda fabric, Cabbage Roses and Memory Lane, have a coordinating range of fabric tape. I have been using this tape in some fun craft projects lately – it is a lovely quality, and useful for lots of craft and decor projects. It is distributed in Australia by Two Green Zebras. I will be putting together a blog post soon that shows some of my favourite uses for fabric tape.

Little Scissors with Hand Printed Bag by Yardage Design

5. Little Scissors with Hand Printed Bag

These little scissors measure just 2.5 inches, and are available in both red and black. They come with this delightful little hand printed bag. These are the perfect size for a little travel sewing kit, and would make a great gift for a sewing friend. I bought these scissors from Yardage Design. They are the perfect addition to my scissor collection – love their petite size.

Disclaimer: Fiskars Cutting Mat was provided by Fiskars for review purposes. The Tilda Fabric Tape was provided by Two Green Zebras.  All opinions are our own.

A lot can change in 10 years ❤️ It’s been fun look A lot can change in 10 years ❤️ It’s been fun looking back at where I was in 2016 and how far life has come since then. Swipe for a little trip down memory lane.Back in 2016, my priorities were firmly centred around family. I was working full‑time, sewing in the guest room, sharing tutorials on my blog, and slowly dipping my toes into selling a handful of patterns on Etsy. It was a busy, full season — and creativity was something I fitted in around everything else.  Fast forward to 2026… I’m now retired and living the creative life I once dreamed of. My kids have grown up and are living in their own homes nearby. My husband and I are free to travel, explore, and enjoy this stage of life. And I get to spend my days designing, sewing, and connecting with this beautiful community.Life looks different now — in the best possible way. Were you following me back then, or what has changed for you over the past 10 years?
