How to Make a Bath Mitt

March 30, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 10 Comments

Eiffel Tower Bath Mitt

Do you remember the pack of white face washers that I bought recently? Well I am slowly coming up with some ways to jazz  them up for little gifts.  This week I have made one into a bath mitt featuring our favourite icon, the Eiffel Tower! This is such a quick project and it would be great partnered with some nice soap or body products as a gift.

How to Make a Bath Mitt

Materials:

If you would like to make a bath mitt, this is what you need:

  • white face washer (Ours measured 12 x 12 inches, 30 cm x 30 cm).
  • scrap of navy polka dot fabric for the appliqué
  • fusible appliqué film such as heat n bond lite
  • small piece of ribbon/fabric tape for hanging loop  (we bought our Bonjour tape from this etsy store).
  • scrap of striped ribbon (optional)
  • Template Bath Mitt – Eiffel Tower Applique

 Method:

  1. Cut the face washer so that it is 9 inches in length from the top. Make sure you trim the face washer from the bottom edge so that the bound top edge and side edges are intact. This will leave you with a nice opening for the Bath Mitt and keep the inside seam of your bath mitt neat.
  2. Trace the Eiffel Tower template on to the back (paper side) of the appliqué film. Cut around the shape leaving a 1/2 inch clearance. Press this shape on to the back of the polka dot fabric. Cut out the Eiffel Tower shape. Peel off the paper backing and press in place on the left hand side of the face washer (as shown in the photo).Appliqué Eiffel Tower
  3. Using raw edge appliqué, stitch around the Eiffel Tower three times. Make sure you don’t sew exactly on top of the stitching from the previous round so that it gives a sketchy appearance. Eiffel Tower Mitt
  4. Cut the fabric tape so you have a 4 inch length. Fold it in half lengthwise and baste in place on the top left hand side of the face washer, approx 2 inches from the top. (Optional) Stitch a small piece of striped ribbon to the top of the bath mitt as shown in the photo. Bath Mitt Construction
  5. Fold the bath mitt in half so that the side edges are aligned. Stitch down the side and bottom of the bath mitt, using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Overlock (serge) along the bottom of the bath mitt. If you don’t have an overlocker, use a small zigzag stitch. Turn the bath mitt out the right way, and press.

These bath mitts are so quick to make and they would be great items to sell at a school craft stall or fête.

    It’s very beautiful !
    I’m french from Paris.
In french, we say : “Bienvenue en France” not Bienvenu à France.
“C’est ma sensation” is out of context 🙁
But I love your creation !!!
