Ever since we first spotted macaron coin purses in the Japanese sewing magazine, Cotton Time, we have wanted to make our own. We love everything French and the sweet little zippered macarons are so cute in size and the possibilities when it comes to embellishing them are endless. They are not the most practical of purses – the storage space is small but they are perfect to house a special treasure or piece of jewellery.
We found the cutest French coloured zip and the macaon plastic outer shell when we were in Tokyo earlier this year. (Purchased from Okadaya in Shinjuku). If you want to make your own there are a number of etsy stores selling macaron purse kits and supplies.
Sarah selected the fabrics for our first macaron coin purse – red and white polka dots (of course) with a lining of blue gingham fabric. It features some red and white striped ribbon and a little silver Eiffel Tower charm. We plan to make more of these – it is hard to stop at one. If you would like to make your own, we recommend following the very helpful tutorial by Craft Passion. You can find it here.
Here are some sweet macaron coin purses pictured in Japanese craft books. Even though we don’t read Japanese we can usually work out the projects from the photos and diagrams in the books/magazines.
Love the ricrac trim and patchwork macaron shells.
The pastel colours and sweet embroidered details are gorgeous.
These ones feature a more traditional embroidered monogram.
