Love Needle Case

October 24, 2021 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 1 Comment

Love Needle Case PDF Sewing Pattern by A Spoonful of Sugar Designs. Pattern available at shop.aspoonfulofsugardesigns.com

Love Needle Case is our latest sewing project design. I designed this especially for sewists, to have a pretty and practical place to stow your needles, pins, etc when sewing on the go. It was designed to use all of those orphan pre-cuts that you have in your stash – each Love Needle Case uses 5 charm squares and 1 layer cake square, or you can delve into your scrap bin. I love a project that puts your favourite scraps to good use.

Love Needle Case was inspired by my heart shaped waffle machine. Seriously – it is the exact same shape. The needle case cleverly folds, origami style, so that it forms a heart shape. Narrow ribbon ties and a sweet lace motif complete the case. It has a felt heart insert to hold all of your sharp needles/pins in place. This is a fun project that can be easily made in an afternoon. Nothing beats quick results when you are time poor.

I used a variety of small scale print quilting cottons from the same colour family to create a coordinated needle case. Think small print florals, geometric designs, ginghams and polka dots. The samples shown in these images use Prim fabric from Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs. This fabric range was absolutely perfect with its small designs.

If you are looking for heart motifs to add to your project, search eBay or Etsy with the search term “heart lace” or “lace motif” and you will find loads of options. Alternatively check out your local sewing or haberdashery store. I love adding little design elements to my projects. You could also add a woven tag, leather tag, buttons, or a small raw edge applique to finish off the project. The sky is the limit!

Narrow ribbon ties are the perfect finishing touch.

Be warned – it is hard to stop at one! I made four in one sitting. These Love Needle cases make great gifts for sewing friends or to include in a swap package.
