High Tea Blog Tour: Heart of the Home Mini Quilt + Hexie Sewing Kit

August 14, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 14 Comments

High Tea by Jera Brandvig for Lecien Fabrics

Welcome to the High Tea Blog Tour! High Tea is the wonderful debut fabric collection by talented designer, Jera Brandvig from the blog Quilting in the Rain and author of Quilt As You Go Made Modern. High Tea is a sweet range in soft shades of pink, blue, lemon, mint, ecru, and red. The fabric features many of my favourite things – tea cups, strawberries, doilies, flowers, and more – perfect for tea lovers everywhere!

I have made two projects with this delightful range – a mini quilt, and a sewing kit.

The Heart of the Home Mini Quilt is my new pattern featuring nine hearts that are foundation paper pieced. In this version, I used charm squares for the hearts. Each heart is pieced using two colours and a variety of prints from the High Tea collection. White fabric has been used for the background and the hearts have been machine quilted. A sweet floral binding completes the quilt. The Heart of the Home Mini Quilt measures 14 3/4 inches which makes it the perfect size to use as a mini quilt, place mat, or tray mat for your next tea party.

The Heart of the Home Mini Quilt is quick project that can be easily completed in a day. It would be the perfect starting point for anyone wanting to learn foundation paper piecing. The pattern will be available in our Etsy store and Pattern Shop soon (I will do a blog post when it is ready – I have a couple of variations of this design to share later this week).  Edit: Head to our Etsy store or Pattern Shop to find The Heart of the Home Mini Quilt PDF pattern.

The Mini Quilt can be made in a scrappy look as shown here or with a more cohesive look, by using fewer fabrics. It is a fun project to really showcase your favourite prints in a charm pack.

The colours in this sweet range are the perfect match for a special tea cup that my grandmother gave me for my Confirmation many years ago. I love tea sets.

I couldn’t resist making a second item from  the High Tea Collection. These small scale prints are perfect for fussy cutting and English Paper Piecing. I made a Hexie Sewing Kit featuring 3/4 inch hexagons. I used sweet gingham bias binding with a picot edge to finish the kit. This was a pretty variation to making your own bias binding in a coordinating fabric.

The inside of the Sewing Kit features a felt flap to store pins/needles; and a small pocket for your scissors or other sewing tools.

Congratulations Jera on a wonderful fabric range! High Tea is so sweet and inspiring, and perfect for so many projects. It was lovely to work with some softer shades for a change, and who can resist those pretty strawberries!

High Tea by Jera Brandvig for Lecien Fabrics is available at Sew Stitching Happy (charm packs available now and yardage arriving this week!).  I hope you will join Jera on the rest of her Blog Hop. See the schedule below for all the stops on the tour and to see what the talented designers create with this pretty fabric.

Swipe for a little trip down memory lane.Back in 2016, my priorities were firmly centred around family. I was working full‑time, sewing in the guest room, sharing tutorials on my blog, and slowly dipping my toes into selling a handful of patterns on Etsy.
