Hexie Heart Placemat

January 9, 2021 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 3 Comments

Hexie Heart Placemat PDF Sewing Pattern by A Spoonful of Sugar (Etsy)

Now that Christmas is over and I have packed away all my holiday décor, I am starting to plan for Valentine’s Day. I assembled all of my favourite pink and red fabrics – tiny florals, polka dots, stripes and more – for my inspiration. Pink and red is always a lovely combination.

Pink and Red fabric selection

I love to have pretty tea parties for any occasion – Valentines, Mothers Day, birthday, anniversary, or high tea. Dressing my table for these occasions is so much fun. Creating a pretty table was just the inspiration I needed for my latest pattern design.

My latest pattern is the Hexie Heart Placemat. It consists of a pretty foundation paper pieced heart in the middle of the placemat, and has a striped patchwork border. The placemat can be used as a placemat, mug rug, trivet, coaster or pot holder. If using as a potholder or trivet, simply add a layer of insulated batting (such as insul-bright).

The Hexie Heart Placemat is quick to construct and can be easily made in an afternoon. Choose pretty shades of pink or red, or use any colour combination you chose. I couldn’t resist adding a striped binding. I am going to make a whole set of these for my next high tea.
