Wishing all you Mothers, Mothers to be, and Grandmothers a very happy Mothers Day! I was really spoilt today with breakfast in bed, lovely cards, and presents. Sarah baked two types of brownie – chocolate cheesecake, and white chocolate chunk – so I got my chocolate fix as well. It was my birthday a few days ago so this week has been an extra special one!
Sarah and I gave all the Mothers in our family some “Spoonful of Sugar” goodness in the form of aprons (beautifully made by Sarah and she will post pics of them soon) and some Handbag organizers.
I have also been working on some secret projects this week. Here is a sneak peak….. I love Amy Butlers new fabric range!
I recently made a picnic rug out of repurposed denim, mixed with a bit of new as it was taking too long to build up a supply of old jeans! It has given it a nice checkerboard effect. My front loading washing machine didn’t like it though as the lint filter became really clogged and made a bit of a mess. It would have been better washing it in a top loading machine so that I could remove the lint during the cycle – oh well next time!!
Enjoy the rest of your Mothers Day!

Happy Belated Birthday Lisa – hope you had a special day, just like your mother’s day. The denim picnic rug has come up a treat – my stitching group made me similar pattern in flannels for my 40th B last year – love it to pieces. Enjoy your week. Hugs Julz

I’m confused about the lint filter in a front loader. I have one but I didn’t know they had lint filters…oh dear!
By the way, I love all your latest creations, but especially the denim blanket!

What a great project with the old jeans! It reminds me I need to dig out a table runner and some place mats I made from old jeans but have never done anything with. I’m looking forward to seeing the apron pictures. Happy Mother’s Day to you!

Happy Belated Birthday Lisa – I love the handbag organisers – terrific fabric choices – I also love the idea of the picnic rug – At the moment I am really serious about losing weight – I have lost 5kg in the last four weeks and I have a couple of pairs of jeans that are starting to get a little big for me – so you have inspired me to make a rug like yours – as if I cut the jeans up it will make me think twice about putting on weight as there will be no safety clothes in the closet to fit into – and I love my jeans!!!
I really can’t wait until Ella is little older (not wishing her toddler years away) – so I can have crafty fun with her as you do with Sarah!

I love the mix of colors in the denim. The very first project I ever posted was a quilt I made of my son’s old jeans (it took 8 years to collect them).

I love your picnic quilt! I have a ton of old jeans and have been meaning to do a picnic quilt for years. Did you do this the traditional raggy quilt style (equal size blocks of both dark and light denim) or if almost looks as if you have a large base of the dark denim and then you just attached the lighter squares???
Corrie says
what a great idea! well done! I never thought of that and how many pairs of jeans does one person need and not wear! thanks for the inspiration!
Corrie:)

I just got 7 jeans from a thrift shop and am going to do this as a quilt since they are so warm and last a long time. Thanks for the idea!
PS I know this thread is old but I got here through Pinterest and am always looking for cool ways to up-cycle things that I buy and have. 🙂 Have a good day!
A Spoonful of Sugar says
It is such a great feeling to upcycle! My jeans quilt is still going strong after all these years. It is so hard wearing and perfect for picnics. Happy sewing!
