Easy Baby Blanket

March 15, 2013 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 9 Comments

Easy baby blanket

When it comes to gifts for babies, we love to give items that are practical and you can never have too many flannel baby blankets. There are some lovely flannel prints available that make modern and fun baby blankets. Make an easy baby blanket by binding the flannel with a coordinating quilting cotton. They are a great baby gift to have on hand.

You will need:

  • 1 metre/1 yard of flannel
  • 1/3 yard of coordinating quilting cotton

Firstly wash the flannel in a mild laundry powder suitable for sensitive skin; dry; and iron fabric. Generally I don’t prewash fabrics, but flannel does tend to shrink more than quilting cotton.

Cut out a square of flannel measuring 36 inches x 36 inches. Cut four strips of quilting cotton for the binding, measuring 2 1/4 inches x width of fabric.

Sew the binding strips together with a mitred join. Iron the long binding strip in half lengthwise. Sew the binding to the flannel as if you were binding a quilt by machine.

This is a great project to practice your machine binding technique.

This may be a silly question but do you just use the one piece of flannel or is it pretty front AND back?
