The Domestic Goddess Rides Again

April 5, 2008 By Spoonful of Sugar - 21 Comments

We built our house nearly 5 years ago now. My extravagance at the time was to put 2 ovens in the kitchen, side by side. My friends thought we were crazy (some thought that one oven was too many!). However, I have been nurturing Sarah’s cooking skills and she is now a very competent cook in her own right (at age 11 years) and can cook up a 3 three course meal without assistance. This afternoon we spent a very companionable time baking, side by side. She whipped up some Fudge Brownie Cookies (most of her baking incorporates chocolate in one form or other) and I made up some cupcakes – vanilla and chocolate with some inspiration from Nigella. Our lunchboxes will be the envy of our classmates and colleagues this week…..

I have been wanting to experiment with some zippered pouches after seeing many fine examples over recent weeks. I made up this little cupcake number which Sarah is going to stash in her school bag to keep some handy items such as tissues, money, and lip balm.

I also made up this Gingerbread pencil case using some gorgeous fabric that I ordered from Retro Mummy.

Lisa love the baked goodies, they look so divine, and the bags are adorable! What a great idea, even in 9th grade my daughter still needs all kinds of small cases for different things.
    Love your designs!

Aha…so since you built your house only five years ago, you MUST live pretty close to me!!! I’m with you on the two ovens. I had a double oven at our old house and thought I wouldn’t use them, but they both got a serious workout. Especially when baking sweets or entertaining. You’ve really inspired me to get my daughter cooking…she’s only seven but I think she could start baking her own things now, rather than just stirring and cracking eggs, right?

That is an awesome idea, just need a bigger house to put two oven into. I love the way you inspire your daughter, mine always want to sew/scrap or cook (or which the do) but I could take more time to encourage them. Those little cases are a great idea.

Great pencil cases, think I might have to steal that idea! They would be great little gadet cases in general for all my bits and pieces.

Yum. I wish I had two ovens….I had to bake in batches yesterday and it’s so much more time consuming. I love your zippered pouches, I’m going to have a go at them myself when I get the chance.

Love the gingerbread pouch! Especially the fabric with the kerchief girl. I’d have to give up a sink or a fridge to make room for another oven. We have a stand in one place and do it all kitchen in a very old house. Good thing I don’t cook much.
