Home Sweet Home Sewing is the newly released and much anticipated book by the talented Helen Philipps. It is packed full of sweet and practical items to make as gifts or for yourself. It is such a pretty book and will certainly inspire you to give the gift of handmade this Christmas.
I was so pleased to be invited to participate in the book tour for this gorgeous and inspiring book. The hardest part was choosing which project to make first! I selected the Postage Stamp Pincushion, which consists of a pretty patchwork front that includes a sweet 3D butterfly detail.
I decided to transform the pincushion into a lavender sachets that I can give as small handmade gifts this Christmas. I machine pieced my 1.5 inch squares instead of using English paper piecing (EPP) suggested in the book for a faster finish. I love the effect of using one colour family in my patchwork so made these from my favourite pink and yellow scraps. Love a good scrapbuster project!
Polka dot butterflies were added as a finishing touch.
Home Sweet Home Sewing includes 17 beautiful projects which explore Helen’s love of fabrics, patchwork, and colour. Projects include: pillows, bag, quilt, coaster, wreath, and more! Projects are suitable for the confident beginner and include a variety of techniques including sewing, patchwork, applique, cross stitch and embroidery. There are plenty of tips for customising the projects with special ribbons, trims, and other sweet details to really make the project your own.
These postage stamp pincushions were such a fun project to sew. What I love about Home Sweet Home Sewing is the projects are easy to follow and there are loads of step by step photos, illustrations, and full sized templates to guide you through the construction process. So much inspiration in one gorgeous book!
