Bits and Pieces

May 17, 2008 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 34 Comments

I recently stumbled across a wonderful blog from a very talented Spanish crafter. I was fascinated by her cute little cat key pouches, and Pepi generously sent me a template to make them. I made mine into a coin purse with a key ring attachment. I love the little stuffed fish in this design!

I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately as I juggle home and work demands. Fortunately I have managed to reduce my work hours and will now only be working three days a week (school hours) which hopefully will give me more time to be creative! I had my first three day week this week and am already feeling better for it. The house is cleaner, we have eaten better, and I have had more time for my creative pursuits.

A dear friend gave me this book for my birthday – she knows me too well!

I love to bake but have a weakness for cupcakes. In fact as I was preparing to bake this afternoon, I decided to sort out my extensive patty pan collection – I can’t resist buying them whenever I see a new type.

I spent this afternoon sewing – but it was only doing alterations! I have been feeling guilty as my dear husband bought some new trousers when we were on holiday in Singapore in January and has been patiently waiting to have them taken up! I managed to check this off my list afternoon and also take up two new pairs of winter trousers for myself (I usually buy petite sizes as I hate doing alterations). I also took down two pair of school trousers for my 13 year old son who is growing at a rapid rate (you should see my grocery trolley – he is unfillable!)

Hi Lisa, love the variety of cupcake patti tins. You will enjoy your new working hours, it is a juggle for all of us working mums to try and find the balance of career, home, being a mum and avid crafters 🙂 The weekends are never quite long enough. Cat purse is very cute – I’ve still got a red leather cat face purse I was given as a little girl and your fabric one reminded me of that 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Hugs J x

Heh… too cute. The little fishy might also go well modified into a zipper pull (on a ribbon)…

And wow… you have a *lot* of pattypans!

    Lisa –

I love the kitty purse! Alas – I am afraid of the whole “zipper” thingy. I know I shouldn’t be…but I am also afraid to make a buttone hole. I’m one of those people who is visual. So, I have to see it done to be able to do it and…well, there just isn’t anyone to show me…so, I’m bummed…because I want to make that kitty coin purse! 🙁

I love the cat key pouch. I need to add that to my list of things to replicate for my daughter. It turned out great!
I love to bake too but don’t do it as much as I did before I had a child. Funny thing though my waist is bigger now than it was when I baked all the time!!!
I hope your new work schedule gives you plenty of time to create. I enjoy seeing what you make so keep sharing!

Love the key purse. I have just cut my hours to 2 day but they are very long days and I love it the kids were putting in orders yesterday for biscuit etc. It’s great to have the extra time. I hate doing alterations would rather make a pair of pants than take a bought pair up, sadly I have a short husband and daughter.

Your coin purse is great. What a fun project. My berry picking resulted in a pie for tonight’s dessert. It turned out well, thank goodness. I am not the best pie maker! I hope your Singapore trip is fun. We were there almost four years ago. I would love to go back!

Don’t you hate it when family members ask you to alter their clothes or take up hems. I take items straight to the local alterations specialist. My father asked me to mend the vinyl BBQ cover at the beach house last summer (after mum had turned him down). Good on Dad – he hand sewed it back together himself.

I love your cupcake pan collection too. I must say I have a few different varieties in my pantry too. There’s something about them that makes them really appealing. I can’t say I’ve baked cupcakes as pretty as yours though. I might have to investigate the books you have featured further.
