Miniatures and More

June 3, 2008 By Spoonful of Sugar - 32 Comments

I am loving all the gorgeous doll quilts that I am seeing around at the moment. As I don’t have anything new to share, I thought I would dig up some old favourites!

A few years ago, I was going through a Miniature Patchwork phase – which is a great way to use up all those teeny tiny bits of fabric that one saves – just in case!

I made this Starry Patchwork mat that Sarah uses on her bedside table. Each star is 3 inches square and I made it out of a mix of lovely hand dyed fabrics and batiks. Sarah is planning a bedroom makeover so I might get to reclaim it soon.

I love this little red and cream paper pieced miniature. Each block is 3 inch square.

Lisa wanted to know what our view of the Indian Ocean looked like. I haven’t had a chance to take any photos myself but I got this pic from a tourist website. We live about 500 m away from this………..

O.K. – I know…”Thou shalt not covet” – right, but c’mon with a view like that…how can I not! I love the starry bedside quilt you made. I don’t think I’ll ever try anything that elaborate. I almost had a coronary making the 9 patch for my mom. 🙂

Those quilts are so beautiful! I like miniature anything. I tease my mom that it’s silly to cut perfectly good material all apart just to sew it all back together – but that’s because I can’t!

I’ve been experimenting with minis. I was wondering…do you press seams open? My tiny pinwheels were a bit lumpy with all the seams coming together. Maybe you have some sage advice..

Hi Lisa – what a fantastic view from your front door 🙂 Yours is so blue – ours is so green – we over look bush before you start seeing the houses up the valley. I haven’t tried a minature quilt yet – though have a couple of patterns to add to the “projects to tackle” pile. Hugs Julz x

I have tons of tiny scraps that I can’t bear to throw away. I think I need to try something like this. Did you hand sew or machine piece the quilt?

    It is gorgeous!
