Handmade Living: Handmade Christmas Gifts

November 30, 2010 By Spoonful of Sugar - 22 Comments

Today Sarah and I are thrilled to be a stop on the Handmade Living Book Launch Blog Tour. We warmly welcome Rosalind Grace of Grace Designs, one of the contributors to the book, with this guest post on Christmas Giving the Handmade Living way.

There is something very special about receiving a handmade gift don’t you think? Handmade gifts speak volumes of creativity, care and thoughtfulness.

Handmade items are usually stamped with a unique, limited edition appeal; knowing you are one of a small group of people to own your gift is quite a buzz.  Mass-produced is almost a dirty word these days.  I am also very happy to know ‘small hands in poor conditions’ haven’t made the gift I am giving or receiving!

Christmas is just around the corner and there are some enticing, simple projects in Handmade Living that I would classify as ‘achievable’ in the countdown to the 25th.  Personally, I love to make gifts that are not only pleasing to the eye but useful and yummy…literally.  A few of my favourite projects in Handmade Living that I can recommend are:

* The lovely Ipod cover by A Little Red Ribbon using gorgeous re-purposed fabric and linen

* My lovely multi-purpose flower hair piece (I could be a little biased with this one 😉

* Gorgeous Macarons from The Curious Chocolatier

I hope you are as eager as I am to get creative this Christmas.  If things don’t work out to plan you can still shop ‘handmade’ and support local artists by doing so.

Thanks for having me Lisa and Sarah.

Happy Creating!
Rosalind 🙂

    Hi Lisa! 🙂

I’m absolutely with you when it comes to hand made gifts – I was thinking the exact same thing last night when I posted!! There really is nothing that tops it, when I receive hand made gifts I can’t stop holding them! Unless they’re edible of course! ha!!

This book looks beautiful – and you absolutely should be biased with your project – it’s delightful! 🙂

    Christmas hugs!! Vikki 🙂 xx

I totally agree about trying hard to buy handmade if you can’t handmake items yourself. I always think it’s a beautiful bonus that the handmade items I’ve bought from others online have always had that extra special touch of beautiful wrapping or a hand written thank you that just makes the whole experience perfect. A mass produced something shoved into a plastic bag by a shop assistant who doesn’t care, just doesn’t compare.
