Stunning Swirls

July 2, 2011 By Spoonful of Sugar - 28 Comments

This morning Sarah and I attended a cupcake workshop called Stunning Swirls at Wild Sugar Rose. We were introduced to 5 techniques to make very professional looking icing swirls on top of our cupcakes. We also learnt how to make some basic decorations out of fondant. Sarah and I are long time lovers of all things cupcake – and it was so much fun to learn some professional tips and tricks so that we can elevate our cupcakes to a whole new level. It was a small class of 8, and everything was provided so that we were able to take home 6 decorated white chocolate mud cakes each.

Best of all, it was a wonderful Mother/Daughter activity.

Here are some of our cupcakes

Rose Swirl –

Ruffle Swirl –

Soft Serve Swirl –

Guess what is on our agenda for tomorrow? You guessed it, we are going to put our new found skills to practice and make some cupcakes to take to work and school on Monday for our friends.

your cupcakes are so lovely! I just love cupcakes, but just never seem to find the time to make and decorate them! A class on decorating them would be so much fun for my daughter and I though! (She is 21, but we sure do love to spend time doing creative things like this together!)
    Happy 4th!

Wow, they do indeed look professional! I wish I could do that too; mine always look like a child (a 5 year old) had a go at it. And although there might be one or two which would pass muster, the all over effect is quit off putting. Maybe you should do a tutorial here ;).
