Candy Cane Milkshake

December 4, 2012 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 4 Comments

Today was Sarah’s last day of school for the year and it was a hot 38 deg C day. To cool down after school and to celebrate the start of the summer holidays, Sarah made a Candy Cane Milkshake. It was the perfect opportunity to put our new Cuisinart Stick Blender from Kitchenware Direct through its paces and to enjoy a festive drink. The peppermint candy cane added a delicious minty flavour to a vanilla milkshake. We will definitely be making them again.

To make the milkshake, Sarah broke up a candy cane and popped it in the grinding attachment. In a few seconds, we had finely crushed candy cane.

Next, she combined 3/4 cup of milk, 1 scoop of vanilla ice-cream, and the crushed candy cane in the mixing cup. Using the mixer attachment, it was blended until combined. A perfect festive icy treat!

Making a milkshake using the hand blender was much easier than setting up our full sized blender. The blender will be well used over the summer months when we make milkshakes, frappés, smoothies, salad dressings, and cocktails. It will be great in winter during soup weather. We haven’t had a stick blender for many years. I bought our previous stick blender when the teens were babies to purée their food. I had forgotten how useful stick blenders can be – they are such a handy appliance in the kitchen.

The Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender has a 300 watt motor and is really powerful for a stick blender. It is an attractive, streamlined design, and has a modern brushed stainless steel finish. We love that it is more than just a blender. It comes with a chopper/grinding attachment that can process nuts, hard cheeses, whole spices, cooked meats and even candy canes! You can easily remove the blender shaft and fit the blender motor body to the chopper/grinder attachment. This will eliminate the need to set up our big food processor when we only want to process a small quantity of food. It also comes with a whisk attachment for whipping cream and egg whites.

The handle of the blender is an ergonomic design that makes it easy to grip and it has a one touch on/off button. It is really simple to use. Aside from the motor body,chopper/grinder cover and whisk gearbox,  all other parts are dishwasher safe which makes for quick and easy clean up.

We would really recommend the Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender for its versatility and robust design.

Wow, these look so decadent and delicious! I have one of those hand mixers which I use a lot to make smoothies, especially in winter. Definitely want to try these milkshakes now.
