Hexie Love Actually Blanket {Part 2}

August 20, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 18 Comments

Hexie Love Actually crochet Blanket

I finally finished my Hexie Love Actually Crochet Afghan this week. It was 4.5 months in the making, although I did have a few breaks during its construction. I am really pleased how this has come together. It was my first time using the join as you go method and I really enjoyed this technique.

Hexie Love Actually crochet Blanket

I made a lap sized blanket. This has already been claimed by my daughter. I love the colours I selected – pinks, blues, greens, grey – combined with the freshness of white. I loved using cotton yarn. It is lightweight which is perfect for our mild winters here in Perth.

Details:

Pattern: Hexie Love Actually by Pink Stitches

Yarn: Heirloom Cotton 8 ply from Yummy Yarn and Co

Quantity: 8 balls of white, 2 balls each of seven colours (although I had 3/4 ball of each colour left)

Size: 40 inches x 44 inches

Hexagons: 184, 16 rows (alternating with 11 or 12 hexagons)

Crochet Hook: 3.5 mm

I randomly selected the hexagons as I was joining them together. I tried not to overthink the placement and I like the effect. I am glad I limited the colours to 7 – which gave me 42 combinations of hexagons.

Hexie Love Actually crochet Blanket

I am already planning my next crochet project.

    I love this and it’s very tempting – I just may need to make one too! The “join as you go” method is something I haven’t heard about and may be great to do because it’s not fun at the end to join them all together. Anyway, is it pretty easy in general? Thanks for sharing and inspiring us!

    This makes me want to crochet again. So pretty! Would you say this is a project for beginners or is it more advanced? I didn’t see much detail on the pattern. Thanks.

      Hi Nancy – I would say the pattern is suitable for a confident beginner to intermediate. The pattern only requires knolege of a few basic stitches. The trickiest bit is the final round where you join the hexies together but it doesn’t take long to work it out, and then you just need to repeat.
