A Fresh New Look for A Spoonful of Sugar

January 31, 2014 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 16 Comments

Sarah and I started our little blog back in 2008 so we could share our crafts, baking, and sewing projects. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that our blog would  provide us with so many opportunities and allow us to become part of a worldwide community of like-minded people. We have shared over 1000 posts and our original blogger platform was no longer meeting our needs. We are so excited to reveal our new site to you! Custom designed by Bellano Web Studio, it has so many great new features.

We love our fresh, modern look; our mobile responsive format; faster page loads; and new features. If you hover over our images, you can see the Pinterest “Pin It” button.  At the top of the homepage, we now have a slide show which displays 5 of our recent projects. Underneath this you can see our 10 most recent posts. This will make it easier to find posts that interest you when you come to our site. If you subscribe through a blog reader (such as bloglovin) or email, you will continue to receive individual blog posts. Don’t forget if you follow us through google friend connect, you will need to switch to another service as that will no longer work.

Our posts have been divided into categories – Crafts, Sewing, Holidays, and Recipes, each with a drop down menu. When you open a category that interests you, you can see a gallery of all our projects in that category. This will make it so much easier to search through our past projects and recipes. Would you believe we have 85 sewing tutorials? Here is a screenshot of some of them.

Our Recipes have also been organised into categories and there is a handy recipe index. From this point on, we will be able to format our recipes into printable recipe cards.

Chewy Honey Oat

We are so thrilled with our new custom wordpress site designed by Thauna from Bellano Web Studio. Thauna has taken our ideas and filled our brief perfectly. She has exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be happier with how our site looks and functions. She handled the Blogger to WordPress transfer, designed our new logo, added lots of cool features, and  kept us regularly updated with the progress. If you are wanting to invest in a quality web design, we wholeheartedly recommend Thauna. Thauna has generously offered A Spoonful of Sugar readers a discount. Any “custom design” booked in February (deposit needs to be received by February 28th) will receive either $150 discount OR a free Blogger to WordPress transfer. Must mention that you saw the discount on A Spoonful of Sugar in your initial email to Bellano Web Studio. Space is limited.

To celebrate  the launch of our new website, we will be having a fantastic giveaway next week, with many prizes generously donated by our sponsors. Stay tuned for all the details.

Congratulations on your new redesign! I always read blogs on my laptop, so the improved mobile aspect will go over my head, but I appreciate the organization and clean look, anyway 🙂
And I’m happy I can still leave comments. I sometimes discover (only after I have taken the time to write a comment) that I cannot post it on a wordpress blog. Don’t know why! So many mysteries…

    it just look lovely!
I just noticed something: when I tried to go to holidays-valentine, I cannot click on it, I can hover but then it goes away, I check these other ones (craft, about..) and it seems like there is a problem after the 3rd one (gift wrapping, FAQ…) but it works fine with recipes and sewing!
Looking forward to more beautiful projects!

Thanks Morgane! Are you using a computer or tablet when you had this problem?

I am sorry to hear that – we aren’t experiencing the problem at our end but I will mention it to our designer. It can be a problem on tablets. Will see what we can do.

it does not happen on the home page, just on the post page.

OK – thanks heaps for that. I can see what you mean now. The “pin it” button gets activated which makes it impossible to hover on the lower categories. Will try and get that fixed.
