Retro Pillow

February 15, 2016 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 10 Comments

Retro Pillow

As soon as I saw Amy Sinibaldi’s gorgeous new fabric line, Paperie (for Art Gallery Fabrics), I knew it would make a lovely pillow for my bedroom. The delicate colours in this pretty fabric, look beautiful paired with a crocheted edging.  I used the Retro Pillow pattern, one of my favourite projects from my book, A Spoonful of Sugar for this sweet pillow.

Retro Pillow

The Retro Pillow is constructed from machine sewn hexagons and features a sweet crocheted edging and a zippered closure. For all the project details, including helpful hints on how to crochet an edging on a pillow (as well as alternative edgings if you don’t crochet) – check out A Spoonful of Sugar. (Published April 2016).

Retro Pillow

In this version of the Retro Pillow, I used a solid fabric on the back and hand stitched a small hexagon flower so it echoes the front of the pillow.

Retro Pillow

I used 3 ply cotton yarn for the crochet edging – and found the perfect soft pink shade which is a lovely match for the sweet Paperie fabrics.

Do you like to add crochet to your sewing projects? I love the opportunity to add pretty details to what I am making – the process of crochet is so relaxing. Check out our Zakka Dilly Bag, Wardrobe Sachets, Guest Towel with Crochet Trim, and Face Washer with Crochet Trim for more projects that use crochet as part of the design.
