10 Holiday Decorations to Sew

November 28, 2022 By A Spoonful of Sugar - Leave a Comment

I love to inject handmade into the Holidays. For me, it is part of my preparation for Christmas to make decorations, bake, and create handmade gifts. It really helps me focus on the true meaning of the season and shows your family and friends that you care. Nothing beats creating one of kind decorating items. Here are my most popular projects to sew for the holidays (includes a mix of free tutorials and sewing patterns). Click on the photo to find out more details.

Jingle Bell Coasters add holiday cheer to your festive table. Perfect for your coffee mug or wine glass, these are quick to construct using seasonal fabrics. Pair them with a mug and hot chocolate sachet for a sweet gift.

Easy Hexagon Trivet and Coasters is a beginner friendly sewing pattern to create a hexagonal trivet and matching coasters. Make these from seasonal fabrics and they will protect your table. They are easily constructed in under an hour and make great gifts. Combine with home baked treats for a great Neighbour gift.

Merry and Bright Napkins add festive cheer to your holiday table using our free tutorial. Use store bought fabric napkins and add scrappy letters to suit each guest. This is a quick sew project.

Yuletide Cottages pattern includes a trio of appliqued cottages that you can add to a tea towel/dish towel, hoop art, stocking, item of clothing or more! This is a fun scrap buster project.

Scrappy Mini Stockings are fun to add to your holiday table place settings or to use to hold small little gifts. These can be made from your favourite scraps and look great in monochromatic tones, or else make them in one fabric for a faster finish.

Folded Star Ornament (Free Tutorial) are a great little no sew project which will put your favourite festive fabrics to good use. You can find all the details here.

Star Pillows (2 Styles) are the perfect way to add classic, minimalist decor for the holidays. In these two pillows, monochromatic Ohio Star blocks are framed in low volume prints and the pillow is finished with a satin piping. You can find the pattern in our store.

Mini Holiday House are a minimalist holiday decoration that depict the true meaning of Christmas – family! These can be used as ornaments, gift toppers, or napkin rings. Combine your favourite festive prints with linen and basic embroidery stitching. Pattern available in our store.

Stitched Gift Cards – Make your own coordinating gift cards for your Holiday gifts. Gather some good quality textured card stock and stitch simple shapes to the card. Attach these to gifts for a sweet finishing touch. Find our free tutorial here.

Star Table Runner can be easily made in colours to suit your festive colour scheme. Featuring three large Ohio Star blocks, these are sized for you holiday table, coffee table, or console table. These would also make a lovely hostess gift and can be easily sewn in a day due to their large block construction technique. You can find the pattern in our store.

I hope you enjoyed this roundup of projects to inspire you in your holiday sewing. For more inspiration, check out some of our other Christmas projects.

Sharing a closer look at the Handy Drawstring Pouc Sharing a closer look at the Handy Drawstring Pouch today — a sweet little project that’s as practical as it is pretty. I stitched this one in the blue and gold colourway of the Tilda Songbird collection and love how the soft watercolour florals shine in a small make. The pouch features cleverly shaped panels (with no boxed corners), stands tall when in use, and folds completely flat for storage. It’s also reversible, which makes it such a fun and versatile sew.   These little pouches are perfect for organising your sewing room, gifting to a friend, or popping into a project bag.The pattern includes three sizes, and you can find it in both my Pattern Store and Etsy shop. Comment HANDY and I’ll send the link straight to your inbox.A big thank you to @tilda_australia for gifting the beautiful fabric.#tildasongbird #drawstringbagpattern #aspoonfulofsugardesigns #tildafabrics #sewingproject
