Washi Tape Project

July 24, 2013 By A Spoonful of Sugar - 10 Comments

Most of our china and tableware is plain white. I love the simplicity and timeless appeal of white china and it really showcases the food, but it can be rather boring. I recently spotted some lovely ceramics on Pinterest that had been painted with a bunting design. That got me to thinking that washi tape would be the perfect way to add some temporary colour to plain tableware for a party or special occasion. It can easily be peeled off when you are tired of the design.

For this washi tape project, you need some plain tableware and a selection of washi tape. Cut the washi tape in little flags and stick around the edge of the plates/jugs etc.

I used a trio of washi tape in pinks and oranges – colourful and fun. I even had some paper napkins to match.

Check out our some of our popular washi tape projects:

  • Valentine Boxes
  • Washi Tape Wrapping Paper
  • Washi Tape Memo Holder
  • Washi Tape Drink Labels

Nidhi – it is only a temporary decoration. You could probably hand wash and use it it a few times but it would peel off. If you want a more permanent effect, I would use ceramic paint.

All of our plates/tableware is white too…goes with everything but can be so, plain. What a great way to dress it up for an occasion or event!

For those who are new here — hi, I’m Lisa 👋 And th For those who are new here — hi, I’m Lisa 👋 And this is the story of how a simple mother‑daughter blog changed my life.Back in 2008, my 11‑year‑old daughter and I started a little blog to share our sewing, crafts, and baking with family and friends. At the time, I was working as an occupational therapist, and sewing was my creative escape — something fun we could do together. But over the years, that tiny blog grew. I began contributing sewing patterns to books and magazines… I even wrote my own sewing book… And slowly, what started as a hobby became a side hustle — and a dream I quietly held onto. In early 2024, I retired from the public service and finally took the leap into full‑time creative work. Now I’m happily self‑employed in retirement — designing patterns, creating content, and sharing the joy of sewing with this wonderful community. It’s been the most unexpected, fulfilling chapter… and I’m so grateful you’re here.✨ Tell me — what’s YOUR dream job? I’d love to hear your story too. #sewingstory #meetthemaker #creativelife #sewistsofinstagram #sewingcommunity

If you’ve ever mixed up your fabrics while foundat If you’ve ever mixed up your fabrics while foundation paper piecing, this little trick will save you so much time. When I’m working on my Woven Basket block, I quickly colour‑code the foundation paper with markers so each section matches the fabric I’m using. It keeps everything clear, accurate, and stress‑free — especially with blocks that have lots of movement and woven detail. This simple step makes such a difference to the final finish, and it works beautifully across all four of my woven quilt blocks. If you want to try the Woven Basket block (or the full bundle), you’ll find them in my Pattern Store and Etsy shop.Comment WOVEN and I will send you the link to your DM's.#fppblock #foundationpaperpiecing #sewingtipsandtricks #quiltlove #sewingfrommystash
