On hot summer nights, we love to eat BBQ’s outdoors and enjoy the cool summer breeze. Fortunately we live near the ocean so mosquitoes aren’t a problem. To make our outdoor area more inviting, we set up lanterns around our alfresco area. We love the Rotera lanterns from Ikea and have bought a few in red and white for our Christmas entertaining.
To fit with our French Christmas theme, we have decorated the lanterns with some die cut Eiffel Towers and gingham ribbon. You can find a free Eiffel Tower svg file here. We cut them out using our digital die cutting machine (but you could cut them by hand) and attached them to the outside of the lanterns with double sided foam squares. It is such a quick project. Best of all they can be easily removed later to fit with other decorating themes.
You can read about how we made our Reindeer Christmas Lantern (Christmas 2010) here.
Our hurricane lamp has been decorated with a vinyl monogram.
Our BBQ Grill Mitt and Towel will be getting plenty of use this summer. It is forecast to be 37 deg C here today – love this time of year!

Great idea personalizing your lanterns. I’m hoping to head into Ikea Tempe tomorrow… if I can convince hubby.
